Deadeye and Deadeye 2 have stared their yearly grind in the school system so grandpa took himself to the range by his lonesome this morning. The breeze was light and coming from directly behind me which was ideal. I had a job to do on the Deadeye girls' crickett rifle as I changed the red dot sight on it and I needed to get it on target. It was bore sighted and it took very little time before I had it on at 25 yards.

Then I went on to bigger kid stuff. I have a PT1911and a compact RIA 1911 in 9mm, and a Baby Rock 380 and being quite frank, not one of them would group worth a tinker's damn with .356 lead bullets. I slugged the barrels and they were oversized. I loaded up some loads for all of them using 38 special bullets sized .358. Yea, they were that much oversized. I had found the chamber on the PT1911 to be a little tight for this combo as it wouldn't completely chamber about 1 out of every three rounds and dropped down to some .357 bullets I got from Dardas. The RIA compact and and Baby Rock ran the .358's flawlessly and the groups were greatly improved. The PT 1911 did the same and gave me my best groups of the three guns. I'm a happy camper now and will do some loading and bench shooting in the coming weeks to find the best load for these toys.

I doubt I'll ever equal the accuracy of my two 45 cal.1911's but maybe I can get close. It will be fun trying.

My PT1911 in 45acp shoots right up there with my Gold Cup with a certain handload which they both shoot very well but doesn't look as good. My PT1911 in 9mm ain't no slouch in the looks department. It's SS with a set of grips I whittled out of some really fancy mesquite. She's ready to go out on Saturday night any ol' time.
