It was a great morning today and I took my two oldest gg daughters to the range to shoot their cricket rifle. They are 10 years and almost 7 years old. I also let the oldest choose what 22 pistols she wanted to shoot. A Ruger SR22, her favorite, and a Walther PPK/22, Ruger Mk III 22/45 lite, Ruger MK V, Phoenix, and last a Rossi 22 Plinker all made the trip. We used a heavy duty tripod with a ball mount and a padded rest I made just for shooting. I also took along a Rossi 62C that's the next step up for them.

We were shooting various swinging targets at about 23 yards as I set them up in front of one of the 25 yard target boards. The 10 year old hardly ever missed with the red dot sighted guns. She is also pretty good with the SR22 and almost as good with the Walther and not quite as good with the Rossi and the Phoenix. Its not the guns. I shoot the Phoenix and Rossi better than the SR22. She also did very good with the Rossi rifle even though it's a little large for her but the rest helped. I named her Deadeye.

Little sis got into the game with the crickett and a little help from Grandpa. She is small and wasn't strong enough to cock it although she handled all the other steps just fine. She had about 65 % hits and the little rifle is large for her at this time. I named her Deadeye 2 and that got a big grin.

It was a great day.

This is the way it builds, a daughter or in this case two great granddaughters to the range to experience the thrill and joy of firing a pistol and hitting a target. Just wonderful stuff for a kid. Later in life these young women will be taking their children to a range to experience what they experienced at a young age. And it builds and it builds!

Love it when the kiddos have fun shooting. Nothing beats the smiles when they hit a target that they thought was waaaay too far away. 23 yards is a long way when you are 7 or 10 years old. Great job GG Pa.

Way to go with the great grandkids! My kids were the same way; both of them eager to go shooting and both great shooters (one of them is right on with iron sights while the other does better with a red dot sight).

Back in the far distant past I taught my son and daughter to shoot. The daughter embarrassed some teenage boys. I taught them the basics and turned them loose and my son spent a lot of time hunting and shooting. As an adult he joined the army and on their first trip to the firing range he shot expert. His reward was getting to help the instructors with all the others that had never even handled a gun.

I followed along with my four grandchildren. Of three grandsons the two oldest really enjoy shooting and hunting and the youngest has no interest what-so-ever. My favorite grand daughter (it's a joke between us as she is my only one) took to it for awhile but doesn't show much interest anymore.
