Are you sure this is the serial number? You seem to be adding or missing a digit.

Well maybe I'm missing something. 371869884 would be 1983 or 1984... 869884 would be 1964. There shouldn't be a dash in there.

There is no dash I just figured that you wanted all the numbers, and I thought that including the 37 was not needed so I included the dash. But thanks again. 64 sounds right My mom gave it to my dad for an anniversary gift in 65 or 66.

Was made in 1948, not 1940.

Thanks for the correction, Badger. It was given to about 8 years ago. All the blueing is gone and it had a brown patina, almost like a Brown Bess. It's very tight and slick. This is the easiest shotgun to point and shoot I've ever owned. It had a stamp on the barrel that says PROOFED. Was this put on all their barrels?
