Ok, my friend just gave me one of these guns in poor condition. Does anyone know where I can get disassembly directions for this gun? It is the single shot model.

If this would fit better in the Firearm Research forum, pleas move it over there.

If it's the single shot I have some stuff, a parts diagram at least. I can scrounge it up and mail you a copy if nobody has anything on-line to offer you.

I've only had one apart years ago and it was a pain. You gotta drive out all the pins and have the action in some position (that I don't remember) to avoid breaking or bending some internal parts.

It's has an alloy receiver of some metal and is painted and not blued. The barrel and falling block part themselves are steel and blued.

Numrich http://www.e-gunparts.com/ gun parts may have some of the parts you need and a parts schematic. The firing pin may be the hardest to find.

I have a couple of the 49s including the one my folks gave me in the 1960s. Cool little rifles. My kids learned to shoot on them.

Actually, turns out I have a "deluxe cheesburger", both a parts list/diagram, and disassembly instructions for the single shot.
If you send me an address via PM, I'd be glad to send you copies.
Might mention I have one of the guns as well. Neat little rifle, lots of sentimental value to me.

Thanks, you got a PM inbound.

Looks like all that is missing is the ejector, but I won't know until it is taken apart. That, and the original fake tube was lost, and replaced with rubber tubing. May just leave the tube and forearm off, kinda like the looks of it that way.

an important trick for disassembly is to NOT DRIVE THE PINS OUT ON THE SIDES WITH THE 3 LITTLE NOTCHES!! the notches are to flair the pins so they stop when they are in. you will ream the holes out if you drive em out the wrong way. so hammer on the sides with no notches.

another trick, my barrel band wouldnt stop wiggling on the front of the gun. good luck shooting accurately with the sight moving around all the time. what i did was file a small notch for the set screw to sit in. works very well. it doesnt move at all now.

the only part i cannot get out of the gun is the bolt. it has a funny sort of pin. does this unscrew? if so, how? do i need to cut slots into it to get it out?

M49s are sweet! was my first rimfire at age 9. It has a special place in my heart. I just gotta figure out how to make the forstock quite wiggling.

to karbine

karbine..... aside from the trick i described above, what i did to keep mine from moving was to shim the wood foregrip with paper, and i used jbweld to fill in the wood at the irregular shaped D looking peg at the front of the reciever. the paper goes between wood and barrel to snug up the barrel band and the jbweld snugs up the peg so it cant wobble as much. the front sight barrel band is set better by making a divet in the barrel for the set screw to sit in. you will get a firmer forend and pretty near rock solid sightpost that wont deviate. also, if you are careful and cut the divet slightly rearward for the sight set screw you can make the band want to walk backwards so if it does slip it can only slip rearward and make the D peg area tighter and more secure. that way if it gets a tiny bit loose you tighten the set screw at the front sight and it wedges everything in tightly.

ive still not figured out how to remove the bolt pivot pin. does anyone know if this part is 2 part pressed fit or if it unscrews or what?

Oh man, now I'm feeling like a jerk.
This post has reminded me that I neglected to send a copy to jefnek, which is something I promised to do, and then allowed to slip my mind...I suck!

Alvah,

Check PM. I'd be interested in one of those diagrams/disassembly instructions as well. Let me know the cost and I'll get it out to you lickety-split.

Don't sweat it, I know how that goes. To be honest, it slipped my mind too, that you were sending it

Send my copy over on to M-Rex, seems like he needs one right now.

firing pins.

e-gunparts sent me a warped firing pin. i had to send it back. since then i found a few factory firing pins. i have one extra for sale at 15 dollars shipped inside the 48 states.

i still need to know how to remove the pivot pin. anyone know?

I could really use some help with disassembly of this little weapon. That dang pivot pin on this Martini style has me baffled. Thanks for any advise.

the pivot pin is held in with a small plunger of metal held in with a spring. the spring is held inby the lever. they are a pain in the butt to get out sometimes. i had to whack my pivot pin back and forth with a mallet for what seemed like days before the little plug thingie fell out and i could removethe pivot pin.

Boy am I glad mine is in real nice shape, except for the wiggly fore stock. I think I'm going to try and glass bed it. I have some goop left over from doing my mini 14. I'll post how it goes.

I saw that Jagermeister said he had disassembly instructions for the Ithaca M49. I sure could use them also. Many thanks to any that has them and could send them to me.

i posted my own detailed instructions here on thr somewhere but it was another ithaca 49 thread. look for the other thread.

OK guys, you are making me pine for my old first gun.
Sold it about 10 years ago for $40 and am now regretting it.

I do have a sack of receiver parts I won on ebay last year and then did not need. PM me if interested. Or if you want to sell a M49 :)
