I was working in a area Tuesday that I don't get to very often, and on the way back there's a gunshop I visit very infrequently. They're a bunch of nice guys, and I bought an excellent-condition used S&W 6906 from them at the last gunshow, so I stopped in.
That was my first mistake.
They had 3 used SIG P226's. I figured these were CDNN purchases, but I looked at them anyway. I have a P228. I've owned it longer than any other pistol, and I'll never sell it. It's one of my favoritist guns. I've also wanted a P226 for a while, but never got aroung to getting one- the P228 IS that satisfying. So I looked.
That was my second mistake.
If it was indeed one of the CDNN offerings, it's a hand-select. It's in excellent condition, and it came with 3-10 round mags. I quickly did the math:
$389.99 for the hand-select (but only 1 mag);
$9.00 CDNN shipping;
$25.00 transfer fee;
Total: $424.99
They were offering this one for $429.00 (with 3 10-round mags.)
I took it, of course. Happy as can be. It's everything my P228 is, just a little larger.
Then on Friday, I took the plunge and ordered a USP Tactical .45. My regular gunshop had gotten in a used one in great shape, and they owned it right, so I was going to take it. The only problem was that one of the employees was lusting badly after it also. I'm friends with all of them, so on Thursday, I deferred, and told the employee that he could have it. (They first have to offer it to customers.)
That was my third mistake.
Being the spoiled hedonist that I am, AND having sloppy impulse control, I now REALLY wanted one, so Friday I went in and asked them to order it for me. It was a little too late to get it out in Friday's shipment, so it won't ship until Monday, and won't be in until Tuesday.
I've had to watch "Tears of the Sun," and the Mk 23 scenes 4 times this past weekend - with the P226 by me side - just to control my addiction and try to hold on!
Yup. A rough, but satisfying week on the old credit card.
