Bought my first AR this weekend at a local show. Got an M4 variant because that's what I used to carry for Uncle Sam.

I picked Rock River because of the quality and features compared to DPMS, S&W, Bushmaster, Sabre, and even the more expensive Colt. All the other brands had considerable slop between various parts, but every RRA I looked at was PERFECT. It also came with a match trigger and upgraded grip. For $865 out the door, I think I got a pretty good deal!

I can't wait to break this in! Anyone have any tips or experiences with RRA to share?

That's very nice! My friend is looking to get an AR soon, I'll pass this along to him. He thinks it'll take over a grand to get a good one.

The only advice I can give your friend is to look at several up close before buying. Read up a bit on the different manufacturers. Don't just take a salesperson's word for what's best! With the cash I saved compared to a Colt 6920 (my second choice), I'll be able to get a nice optic on this one for the same price

Congrats. I recently got a RRA and am very pleased with it as well. Like you said, very tight and nicely finished.

Nice purchase BullsEye. I orderd my RRA AR directly from them and doubt that I would do that again. I would not hesitate to buy at a gun show becuase my middy has been a fantastic firearm. I hope that you have lots of fun with it.

I am not a fan of Colt, and in fact I love my RRA, but you did not get the same gun for less money. If you compared the purchase to a DPMS, Bushy, or Stag, that would stand. But Colt does have differences, granted they might not be important to most of us.

That is a nice gun you got though.

Bulls,

The only shopping I've done for ARs was in April last year & the best price I found then was $850 for a Bushmaster M4gery. $865 at a Houston gun show would be okay if you didn't get the upgraded trigger & grip.

The RRA NM trigger is, what, $60 retail and sure is sweet. I had to pay that to get one to retrofit in my Bushy. I don't know about the grip but obviously you saved some money there.

So yeah, I'd say you did well.

You're right, definitely check the various rifles in dealer's stock. My bushmasters are very tight rifles but others complain of slop in them.

Colt does have differences, granted they might be as important to the average shooter

Only significant differences I could find with Colt:

4150 barrel steel (vs. 4140 chrome moly on RRA)
Full auto rated bolt/carrier (RRA bolts are almost identical in design)
True mil-spec fire control parts (hammer, sear, trigger, selector etc...)
*RRA has NM 2 stage trigger, which I consider an upgrade

That's about it. Unless you're doing any select fire conversions, IMO the above just isn't worth the extra $400-$500. Not to mention all RRA guns (even the mid length carbines) come with a minimum 1MOA accuracy guarantee. We'll see if this one lives up to it :D

Used to have a simular rifle. Got it before RRA put match triggers in everything, and it just had the A2 grip.

The tac handle works well for the aimpoint (or so I'm told), but sucks for anything else (based on my experaince).

Grats to you bro.

Out here it's just California dreamin, but that's a damn nice weapon.

My first RRA was a National Match for my wife, I'll hold sub 3/4 MOA at 1000, measured 8-5/8" 3 shot group from a rest, light wind in the Clevland National Forest. It's been 100% reliable.

My M4-gery started and is a RRA Entry Tactical... I'd take it over my Colt M16M4A1, any day of the week well if uncle sam would let me. I use Rem spray as Lube, clean her once every couple of months and she's never skipped a beat, only problem I ever had was a atributed to a bad mag, wouldn't chamber the first round... pretty obvious the feed lips were crushed.

Check out AR15..com sometime, the Equipment Exchange is great for used and new parts.

Attached is a Picture of the little girl: KAC M4 Rails, Surefire Weapons Light, Grip-pod, MI #13 one point sling mount, AimPoint Comp 2, Larue LT-129, Badger Tactical Latch and a funky butstock pad.

I really like my RRA. I thought the fit and finish of the RRAs was superior to Colt's as well. If the rifle has a chrome lined barrel you did well.

Congrats on your purchase...I have a RRA AR as well and love it...0 malfunctions through many, many rounds. Let's get a range report whenever possible.;)

They can't steal that handle, it's "tactical" according to RRA
I think that means if anyone tampers with it, the nuclear self-destruct mechanism will activate ;)
