It's Finally Here and I want one...

That is a very nice looking revolver. I have not ever handled a Roper grip but I like the looks. Does it handle recoil well and does it designed to fit average hands or is it over sized?

I like it! Up to this point, I have been successfully resisting the temptation of the other iterations of the .44 Special GP100, but this one seals the deal.

In the right gun, like the first Bowen Colt SAA pictured in a Taffin article nearly 30yrs ago, a 215gr at 1200fps.

Wow!
Ruger has come full circle and is soon to perfect an S&W clone!

Don't misunderstand me. I like Rugers, have some, but they lack the finesse and elegance of older Smiths.
I find the RedHawk (had one in .45c), and Super and New Model BlackHawks too "CLUNKY". Too heavy for all day carry, though I'd recently carried a Glock M22 on a belt with two mags and full gear.

I love the little Single-7 and .327FedMag.
Considering a SP101 in .327.

But, I've got an over grown gun room full of 'Smiths. Most recently a sweetheart M69 .44Mag. My idea of a "working" gun.
A crew-served hand gun no longer appeals to me. I'll just carry a handy Carbine with a sling.
(Like my 11-shot Marlin M1894 -recently made "Remlin". Nice little piece. Only needed typical old-school Marlin tweaks. Trigger, and fore-end refitting.). It handles a Lee 310gr FNGC over 2X.Xgr of #2400 or 296 with aplomb. No need for thermonuclear loads with 20"bbl, either...
Just saying...

I don't care what one's preference is but let's be a little more realistic. My plain old 6" model 29 is 2oz heavier than a 4 5/8" Ruger Bisley .44Mag. Which is only 3oz heavier than my 629MG. Even the 7½" Super Redhawk with the newer heavier barrel profile is only 5oz heavier than said model 29 that is 1½" shorter. So even the heaviest Ruger is still a long way from an X-frame or leveraction carbine.

Mine *should* be here Tuesday, well at least according the the USPS tracking number. I don't trust it, they've been wrong a lot this month and I imagine it'll be a couple extra days with us coming out of Christmas. With luck I'll have my new GP before Friday. :)

Some have claimed this new GP series is trying to mimic S&W. Meh. It's more trying to mimic the old Security Six if anything, echoing Jason Cloessner from Lipsey's.

Provided my example checks out, I'll be ordering a good holster for it from El Paso Saddlery and a speedloader pouch for carrying out in the desert. I like the idea of a .357 belt gun for out there. Lots of open country and potential for two legged threats behind vehicle cover.

Ruger used to offer that barrel profile as standard ... I had one back in 2009 but it got away from me. Been hunting for one to replace it off and on for the last eight years... my new one will arrive at the shop this week. :)

Too bad they didn't machine it to accept moon clips like the new 8-shot .357 Redhawk. I can't decide between this or the 5.5" Redhawk for my New Years' gun- wife sez I can have just one! If the GP took clips it would win hands down!

have it cut for the aftermarket moonclips...

No way, doesn't bother me. I MUCH prefer speedloaders for .357 magnums. The long skinny cartridges are poorly supported by moon clips. A proper speedloader holds them tight to prevent the tips of the rounds binding on the cylinder when loading cartridges. They are also more robust and durable, especially for duty use. With Safariland Comp-IIs, there is hardly a speed advantage especially when you factor in the smoothness of inserting cartridges vs. a wobbly moon clip. Now if it were an 8-shot gun I would in fact prefer moon clips, simply because there are no good 8 shot .357 speedloaders and yes I am aware of the 5-Star units and they do not hold the rounds very well.

Without the "shatters like glass" sintered trigger. Blows my mind how the MK3 had the strongest frame and cylinder of all Colt wheel guns and the weakest internals.....
Sure has that rep, but so far so good with mine. Initially the sintered parts got the same bad press MIM got when it came out. It's kind of sort of similar to MIM.

I'm glad I'm broke, or I would be drooling over the .44 Spl in the first post, and I need another .357 like I need another hole in my head, but that one in .357 sure is purty.

Depending on how the trigger hinge cracks, you may not notice it and the gun will often still function. Indeed, a crack in the right spot may relieve the stress on the part and keep it from getting any worse. Ive had the plate off 2 Troopers- one was missing a chunk, but the other only had a hairline. Both triggers still functioned.
Still, considering how replacement triggers (and hammers) are unobtainium these days, I would steer clear. Which is a shame, because I personally consider them the best looking of all Colt double actions, IMHO better even than the Python.

I was going to buy one of the full lug then heard rumors of the half lug.Glad I waited.

I bet there's several people out there that have wished they'd of waited, too!

Looks like USPS didn't deliver mine today. "No Access" according to them, attempted delivery at 4:30... the gun shop closes at 5:30. Turns out this is a very common excuse and most likely the driver was backed up with packages from Christmas and will hopefully deliver tomorrow. Got to love the Post Office!!

Thats the worst ,looking forward to something and having it not show. Good luck post pics. Would love to hear what you think about the grips. I emailed lispesy to see if the grips by themselves would be for sale. They said potentially but as of right now all grips are being made for the guns being sold.

And your avatar change threw me for a loop, thought you were a different member for a sec

Lol! It's one of those armadillo kind of days.

Can't wait to get my hands on it. Pics will be posted and hopefully I can get it out to the desert to take some shots tomorrow.
