The tax man cometh,
And he brings me money, lotsa money! :what:

I telefiled the other night (with 30 min to spare if I might add, I'm working ahead this year ;) ), and found out I get over $400 back. Well, needless to say, this makes me stupidly happy. So, my 21st Bday is coming up and I'm starting to think about that first handgun. So far I have tried several makes that I've really liked. I will list them down; if you folks have had any "experiences" with them (good or bad) that you would like to tell me, please do so. And for you glock types, I'm sorry but there are none of your soul-less widgets on the list. I payed the money to rent 'em and decided I didn't like 'em, sorry boys  .

  • Springfield Armory .45acp fullsize
The timeless classic, I'm already familiar with it and in about 2 months I should be set up to reload for it. Too bad it takes such big bites...
  • CZ-85 9mm
A very handy little pistol, I'm going to rent it again this Thursday when I hit the range. Loved the ergos and how it shot, plus 9mm is fairly cheap.
  • Springfield Armory XD-9
Same thing with the CZ, it just felt like an extension of the arm; point and click. My only problem is the complete lack of anything resembling a safety, besides keeping my cotton-pickin'-finger off the-cotton pickin'-trigger...
  • SIG 220/226 .45acp/9mm
I have not been able to shoot one of these yet but I've been trying to set up a time when I can try one of the 220's that a range employee carries, just haven't been able to hook it up yet. I've held a few and they feel darn near perfect. Lets just say that CDNN is looking very attractive these days!

Thats my choices so far, I've got just under 4 months to make my pick.

EK ... I am biased, having now had my SIG226 for a while!! I do tho think if you could manage to get a good used one from CDNN - it would give you great satisfaction. I have the ST - but hey - no need to go that far!

I am now not only carrying mine daily but - today used it for my IDPA - it is a superb piece - and of course 9mm keeps costs down too.

Plenty of CZ fans here too - so reckon some will say get that. Whatever - good luck and glad you can go for your very own personal piece now, or very soon.

Well, about a year ago, I had been saving my money. I wasn't 21 yet (I still ain't), so I ask my dad to buy a certain .22 after making a "monetary donation" to him. Because of my unexpected generosity, he lets my borrow his .22 any time I feel like it. He bought the markII new at a gunshow and let me tell you its worth every penny. Every thursday or friday, once I get off work, I will spend about an hour and thirty down at the indoor range. My abilities have increased dramatically, besides, .22 is cheap. About every third week I will rent something from the range; always 9mm or .45. Its not much use having a set of skills if you won't cultivate 'em...

As for your first, just keep saving, $5 here, $3 there, $10 next week, it does add up. One more thing, check with your family and close friends. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends, you may be suprised what these people have that they either don't want or are willing to sell you. Just hang in there man, and if you're ever gonna be in kansas, lemme know. We can go reenact the Great Paper Massacre... :D
