:p

The only thing that really bothers me is the remark of the former employee...

“I was very surprised to hear that he shot somebody,†said a former employee. “It's not in his nature. When I worked for him, I never had any problems with him.â€

Why should he have problems with the owner just because the owner was willing to defend himself??

Unfortunately, that's the attitude in NYC. Anyone who would use a gun is automatically some kind of "time bomb waiting to go off."

I guess that guy has no notion of a survival instinct (a "natural" instinct), hope he hasn't bred yet.

Here is another link to the story, and you can see a video clip of story too. WCBS' version

I like what the first guy they interview says :D

What bothers me is....

...has not been charged, police say.
Let me get this right: Two guys enter the store with weapons; the owner disarms at least one of them and shoots them during the commission of the crime.

Why would there be a question about being charged? Is there a suspicion it was really his gun and the late lamented were not robbing the place?

I passed up a chance to go to NYC about 28 years ago. I see I was right.

Pet Store Owner Fatally Shoots Two Robbers In Brooklyn
DECEMBER 10TH, 2003

A Brooklyn pet store owner who shot and killed two men who tried to rob his store Tuesday night has not been charged, police say.

The two armed robbers were shot following a struggle with the owner of Quality Canines in Gravesend, according to police. The robbers may have been shot with their own gun.

A store clerk was treated at Coney Island Hospital for a minor hand injury.

“I was very surprised to hear that he shot somebody,†said a former employee. “It's not in his nature. When I worked for him, I never had any problems with him.â€

Local residents say the store has been robbed before, but for the exotic dogs it sells, not money.

"The robbers may have been shot with their own gun."

I guess it hasn't been positively determined yet?

Two Robbers Shot And Killed

Attempted To Rob Quality Canines In Brooklyn

Dec 10, 2003 7:45 am US/Eastern
NEW YORK (CBS) Two men were shot and killed when they tried to rob a pet store in Brooklyn, police said.

The men entered the store, Quality Canines, on Stillwell Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday and brandished a handgun, police said. The owner, whose name was not released but is known as Ivan, struggled with them and shots were fired, killing the robbers.

Several questions remained unanswered early Wednesday, including whether the shots were fired by the owner or another store employee, and whether the shooter used the robbers' gun or another weapon, police said. No one had been arrested as of early Wednesday.

The names of the robbers, who were both in their 20s, were not immediately released.

The pet store sells purebred dogs for between $600 and $1,200 and was a frequent target of robbers, neighbors told Newsday for Wednesday editions.

Nothing was taken from the store Tuesday and the investigation was continuing, said Detective Noel Waters, a police spokesman.
