I've found a handy little Iver Johnson carbine in 9mm (same action as .30 M1 carbine), but there are no mags with it. The price is reasonable, and I'd like to pick it up, but not without locating magazines.

Does anyone have a clue where I can find the 30 rd. magazines for the Iver Johnson 9mm carbine?

I remember that thing came out in the late 50's or early 60's. It didn't sell well because you could buy a 30 cal GI M1 Carbine for $20. And I don't think the 9mm was very reliable.

If the price is right buy it. I'm sure you can do something about the magazine.

I have no idea what it would be worth. In 48 years I have never even seen one.

I had the called the gun shop and had them try a Hi Power magazine, but it didn't fit. Any other suggestions, anyone?

They never had a 30-round mag as I recall.

The magazines of the first ones used modified browning hi-power type mags holding either 12 or 15 rounds. I forget which.

I believe the rear of a HP mag has to be filed off to provide bolt clearance.

But, even when new, and with the correct magazine, they often didn't work very well, or work at all.

Unless you can buy it very cheaply, as a "project" gun, I'd recommend you pass.

Thanks, RCModel. I saw that it is valued at only $265 "NIB", and this guy wants $240. It is handy and light, but without the mags, and not being "NIB" I think he expects too much. I'll take your tip and pass on it.

My dad had one back in the day, as he wanted a rifle that would also use Browning Hi-power mags like his pistols. Problem was that the hi-power mags did fit (13 rd. ones), but they did not work. He did modify a couple of mags to work, (which enabled me to "learn" several new words that would come out of the shop. "Mom, what does #%&@! mean?"). :cuss:

If your still interested in it, I would post your question on a couple of the M-1 Carbine boards, as this model is "sorta rare". If you could get it for $200 I would take it, even if just to be a safe queen. :)

I had offered $200 for it, but it was turned down. I let my offer stand with him and left my number, but I think he is going to hold out for more. I couldn't justify spending more than $200 on it. It's too bad that the mags don't work -- it is really a handy size and a neat package.
