somthing that has always bothered me about the available grips for the smith J-frame is that the aftermarket grips are all sized the same. by that i mean that the come, almost, to the top of the recoil shoulder of the M-36/37/60, but just stop halfway up on the 42/642.

i remember when centennials came with factory grips that came all the way up to the top of the frame where it covered the internal hammer. does anyone still make somthing like this or is it now solely a custom proposition?

Early (grip saftey) Centennials came with "high horn" grips. Very difficult to find. I've got some Jay Scott black plastic high horn grips but they fit no current Centennials. The grip saftey models have a smaller half circle cut in the frame where the grip fits.

Craig Spegel makes a "high horn" bootgrip for the current Centennials. pickagrip.com had a set recently (gone, now, of course :( ). and I know of no other source for a pic link.

Novak's is selling Spegel grips now. Here's a picture of the Spegal Centennial boot grip from their site

Nice, but at $95 plus shipping, a little rich for my tastes. I wish Spegal would make an identical grip in plain black micarta or delrin for us cheapskates who like black girps.

Those were Spegels "+N+" Boot Grips. for the 10" 629 Silhoutte Model - Can only be carried in hip boots
