Hello all,

I recently had an experience with J&G Gun Sales in Granite Bay, Ca that is worth notifying people about. After you read my story you can decide if you want to do business with this outfit.

I purchased a new Taurus handgun from J&G which was defective out of the box. It had continual feed jams and the magazines would drop out of the weapon as I fired it. I called J&G and they told me to come to their store and they would "fix" it. I was skeptical, but figured I at least owed them an opportunity to fix the weapon. That was my initial mistake.

Approximately one month later, J&G called and advised my weapon was fixed and ready for pickup. I drove to J&G (160 miles round trip) and was told I owe them $33.64 for shipping. I explained that the gun was defective out of the box and I was told by a J&G staff member that they were going to "fix" the gun. The salesman replied by telling me they sent the gun back to Taurus and "they" should have told you about the shipping costs, as "we" don't pay for that. The man then recommended I call Taurus and try to get them to pay for the shipping.

I asked for Taurus' number. The man gave me the 800 number and I started dialing on my cell phone. He then told me, "You need to step outside, there is no reception in the store." (Ya right) I did so and ultimately spoke to a Taurus rep. The rep advised me that J&G did not follow established return procedures, which consists of obtaining a return merchandise authorization. The rep insisted that had J&G done so, Taurus would have paid any shipping or related costs. I was then told that Taurus cannot pay the shipping charges under the circumstances (that J&G created).

I returned to the store and paid the $34.00 to get my gun that was defective from the start, returned to me.

J&G is engaged in unethical and I might add illegal business practices. This is no different than taking your car to get fixed and the repair shop failing to give you a written estimate BEFORE they perform the repair. It is illegal, but to add insult to injury, J&G would not give me my gun back until I paid them the shipping cost they allegedly (and I might add, unilaterally) incurred without my knowledge or permission.

I have driven close to 500 miles to resolve this "new" gun issue with J&G and have spent several hours of my time notifying others in the community of J&G's business practices. I am doing so in an effort to first and foremost let the gun community know what they can expect if they choose to do business with J&G and something needs to be returned for "fixing." It is clear to me that J&G could care less about ANY customer once they have the customers hard earned cash in their cash register.

Do as you may, but forewarned is forearmed.

First; you should have read from cover to cover the information that came with your new taurus and then you should have read it all again. You would have had several unanswered questions still lingering in your mind and would have gone to the Taurususa.com web site and read everything there and then you would have called Taurus and been advised on how to handle you problem with your new gun. It would have been simpler and easier. I extend my condolences to you and the gun shop.

As an after thought; register at taurusarmed.net and find a wealth of information that will help with every aspect of Taurus ownership and use.

I understand that you're upset. I think saying J&G did anything unethical is a bit of stretch. Certainly not customer friendly, but honestly, it's the customer's responsibility to cover the cost of returning a product for warranty repair.

Your claim that J&G engaged in illegal activity is 100% incorrect. What exactly did they do that was illegal?

You wrote that what they are doing is no different than an auto repair establishment not providing a written estimate, which *is* apparently illegal (in California). In reality, what they did was *completely* different, since your firearm isn't a car.

If California actually requires a an auto repair business to provide a written quote before starting repairs, well, add that to the long list of screwy laws they've passed. All a law like that will do is increase the cost of said repairs. (Someone has to pay for the time required to provide the written estimate. Guess what, it ain't going to be the shop.) Here in the state of Texas, I've *never* been given a written quote for an auto repair, other than for body work.

I've never heard of J&G before. Sounds like they're most certainly not the most customer-friendly of establishments. But to claim they're unethical and engaged in illegal practices is, well...unethical and illegal (that is, of course, unless California has legalized libel).

My Taurus 605 wheel connect (?) broke with less than 30 rounds through it. I paid $20.00 to the place I bought it from and they shipped it back to Taurus for repair. It must have been mucked up as they sent me a new one. I didn't like the fact that I had to pay for shipping for what essentially was an out of box failure. But, what can you do? With a life time warrantee on this gun, it was worth the $$$. However, I ain't paying a plug nickel to send my Savage 64 back!!

back when i was doing mechanic work we gave written quotes at least half the time.
ussually we gave a written quote when we were getting into some major work that might require additional work and we always gave bmw drivers written quotes.
basically our quotes had the repair price then how much additional work might be expected. if we were going over the the quote price we called the customer to let them know.
