Hello all,
I recently had an experience with J&G Gun Sales in Granite Bay, Ca that is worth notifying people about. After you read my story you can decide if you want to do business with this outfit.
I purchased a new Taurus handgun from J&G which was defective out of the box. It had continual feed jams and the magazines would drop out of the weapon as I fired it. I called J&G and they told me to come to their store and they would "fix" it. I was skeptical, but figured I at least owed them an opportunity to fix the weapon. That was my initial mistake.
Approximately one month later, J&G called and advised my weapon was fixed and ready for pickup. I drove to J&G (160 miles round trip) and was told I owe them $33.64 for shipping. I explained that the gun was defective out of the box and I was told by a J&G staff member that they were going to "fix" the gun. The salesman replied by telling me they sent the gun back to Taurus and "they" should have told you about the shipping costs, as "we" don't pay for that. The man then recommended I call Taurus and try to get them to pay for the shipping.
I asked for Taurus' number. The man gave me the 800 number and I started dialing on my cell phone. He then told me, "You need to step outside, there is no reception in the store." (Ya right) I did so and ultimately spoke to a Taurus rep. The rep advised me that J&G did not follow established return procedures, which consists of obtaining a return merchandise authorization. The rep insisted that had J&G done so, Taurus would have paid any shipping or related costs. I was then told that Taurus cannot pay the shipping charges under the circumstances (that J&G created).
I returned to the store and paid the $34.00 to get my gun that was defective from the start, returned to me.
J&G is engaged in unethical and I might add illegal business practices. This is no different than taking your car to get fixed and the repair shop failing to give you a written estimate BEFORE they perform the repair. It is illegal, but to add insult to injury, J&G would not give me my gun back until I paid them the shipping cost they allegedly (and I might add, unilaterally) incurred without my knowledge or permission.
I have driven close to 500 miles to resolve this "new" gun issue with J&G and have spent several hours of my time notifying others in the community of J&G's business practices. I am doing so in an effort to first and foremost let the gun community know what they can expect if they choose to do business with J&G and something needs to be returned for "fixing." It is clear to me that J&G could care less about ANY customer once they have the customers hard earned cash in their cash register.
Do as you may, but forewarned is forearmed.
