I'm looking at the Sidearmor IWB holster for concealed carry and I have a question about the "J hook" option versus the "Belt loop" option. The Belt loop is pretty clear, but the J-hook looks as though the hook hooks under the inside bottom portion of the belt. No other linkage to the belt is apparant. How does this work? What prevents the whole kit and kaboodle from falling down you pants?!

Here are the links to an image of the Jhook and the Sidearmor page that explains it:

Thanks again in advance for the help!

You're right. The hooks go under the belt. The holster is more or less supported by the waistband of your pants.

One of the reasons why I don't wear mine anymore.

Holster, that is. I still wear pants. Most of the time.

Thanks Boing...

Another question... and please forgive my ignorance... but if the holster goes inside the waist band, and as belts go on the outside of pants, how do the j hooks attach to the belt if the pants are in the way? Or is the j-hook designed to be inside the belt but outside the pants? Ahhhh!!! so terribly confusing. Somebody, please, educate me.:D

aha! I think i figured it out. The holster goes inside the pants, the holster "U" slips over the pant but under the belt, and the "J" wraps underneath the belt.

This makes sense to me... but is this accurate?

Any thoughts on J-Hook versus Belt loop preferences/experiences?

They're basically the same in regards to quality and retention, they both do a great job. The J-Hook is easier to get on and off without dropping trou.

IdahoFarmer: Yes, that's accurate. The weight of the gun is supported by the waistband of the pants and by belt pressure.

The 'j-hook' basically keeps the holster from coming out of your pants along with the gun during the draw stroke by hooking underneath the bottom edge of the belt.

The only disadvantage to this method is that when you sit down, the j-hooks have a tendency to unhook themselves depending on the width of the belt being used.

After wearing a sidearmor j-hook model for quite some time, I decided to switch to a KyTac BraveHeart. The J-hook device doesn't support the hoster properly on the belt, and the pistol tends to rock back and forth a little. Enough that I always felt like reaching back and re-adjusting the cant. I also had one J-hook adapter break on me and need to be replaced. SideArmor's kydex is also unnecessarily thick for IWB carry, IMO.

That said, it wasn't a bad holster, and I received excellent, friendly service from them consistently.
