On another forum, J. Thurber's The Little Girl and The Wolf came up, (the one where the little girl draws an automatic and shoots the wolf) so I poked around the web trying to find it.
I found it, and this miserable piece of dung:

Did it ever occur to the person who wrote this, that the reasonable, appropriate, just, and moral response to someone trying to KILL YOU is to employ your sidearm?
Well, apparently not. After all, the story shows a child defending themselves, rather than being defended by the governmentally annointed.

CONCERNS ABOUT VIOLENCE?
Some readers may have concerns about the little girl's use of "an automatic" to kill the big, bad wolf. In reading good literature, it is important to remember that we can appreciate great literature without resorting to any inappropriate actions that may be presented therein. James Thurber, regarded as one of America's best-known humorous writers, wrote this parody of "Little Red Riding Hood" in about 1940 and it has been considered as good literature by many since then. He wants us to take a close look at the "classic" fairy tales. The point of Thurber's story, as stated in the teacher's text, is that "Thurber is not condemning fairy tales, but he is demonstrating that fairy tales are not realistic and do not stand up to scrutiny when transposed into a modern setting. He intends the reader to admire resourceful, practical heroines." (p. 205) Please remember that we do not encourage anyone in any way to resort to violence in handling situations in the human world.
