Last night I shot my first single stack classic and boy was it fun. However I got more jams than a smuckers factory in my springer 1911 loaded. They were all due to failure to eject the casing. So I thought that it was the extractor so I went into the back office and pulled the slide and put a round under the chamber and nothing happened, it did not fall out. So the gun smith said it was fine as far as the ejector goes. So I oiled the crap out of the thing and cleaned up the rails a bit and shot 16 rounds with one of the ejection problems. I was using winchester white box 230 ball ammo. I have had this problem last week on the fun shoot. I was using the same ammo so I was leaning toward the ammo being the problem, but I was wonder if anyone can give me some insight on this.

Oh yeah, I had the weirdest jam too. The pistol jammed up and did not extract the empty casing so I tap racked and no bang so I ejected the mag and "cleared" the pistol. Well the casing was still in the barrel and I had not noticed so I ran the mag home and the first round stripped off and turned 180 and chambered the bullet facing me. I was furious and wanted to pitch a fit like a little baby. We grabbed a squib rod and cleared it and then shot it again. The dang ole missery of it was that I had 5 A hits and 1 C hit.

"Fun"?

Try different ammo. If that doesn't change anything, I send it back if you bought it new.

That is Very Scary........ I'de give it a pucker factor of about 10.5

Some folks have problems with Winchester White Box 9mm (in the 100 round value packs).

Don't know if this related to your problem -- as I've never had problems with WWB in my guns -- but I've never shot any .45 WWB, either.

But the extractor groove is different in the 9mm value pack stuff. Look at the groove on your .45 acp and see if it looks different...

With the 9mm stuff, the groove is more beveled from both sides than with most ammo. (The bottom of the groove is not as flat as some ammo.)

Walt thank you for the info.

I am going shooting in 5 minutes I will post the results when I get back.

Springfield 1911's NEVER jam or have malfunctions of any type.It must have been one of those trashy, unreliable Hi-Points.

Did I miss something? Is this a vendetta from another thread rearing its ugly head? :D

I just got back from shooting and had one jam. I think it was a bad lot of WWB. I shot some pmc and it fed fine, but I am going to the smith tomorrow anyway.

FTE Jams

It's the extractor. Springfield has had a bad run of extractors
in the last few months. They're soft, and the hook gets worn,
and will let go of a round even though the tension is good.

Check to see if the hook is square or if it's being worn at an angle
toward the front. This is called a negative purchase, and it
acts as a camming angle that lets the hook slip off the rim.

There's also a chance that the extractor is rotating in the bore.
It will rotate counter clockwise, and what happens is that the
hook faces slightly downward, and drops the case before the
ejector can hit it. This one will most often show up on the
last round, with the case getting crunched between the
slide and barrel hood. If extractor tension is high enough,
it can actually stuff the empty casing back into the magazine.

Hope this nails it.

Thanks Tuner. I am thinking about having my smith putting a wilson in it an be done with it. Its the original that came with the pistol 2yrs ago it was bent before as well.
