Does anyone know where I could buy a Japanese replica plastic gun model kit (Japan of course, being the obvious answer) in the US? I'm referring to the model kits that you assemble and glue together, not the airsoft guns. In the 80's as a lad, I once bought a Colt 1911a1 model kit from a hobby shop. I put the whole thing together (you glue the parts together) and it was pretty realistic (1:1 scale). As an adult, I know own a real 1911-style pistol, and if memory serves me correct, the plastic model was super realistic. (It fed and extracted little plastic 45acp rounds that looked like the real thing). I remember showing the pistol to my friends dad (who was a combat diver in the Korean war) and he was really impressed with its realism and showed us how to handle it properly. Of course, my friends and I played with it till it broke.

Are these available in the US? Is there an online source for these replica models? I thought it would be fun to build one, but haven't been able to find them locally or on the web.

Does any of the THR members in Japan/Taiwan know if these models are still available?

Thanks.

You could try searching on Ebay to see if there are any scale model vendors selling out of Japan or Hong Kong. I bought a Tokyo Marui 1:1 scale model kit of a Smith & Wesson Model 29 wheelgun off Ebay. Came out to be about $80 though.

It was pretty nice, came with metal shells you could put into the cylinder, but the barrel and everything else was plastic. :scrutiny:

Swap meets?

You might want to try swap meets. I am going to one this weekend in soCal. It caters to collectables....and they have two vendors who carry nothing but replicas and all the gear that goes with it.
Another toys for boys area to spend your money.....I think in soCal you have to be 18 or older to buy these toys.
If you want I'll see if they sell their stuff online and if so I'll pm their website to you.
Good luck in finding them.

P.S. I know for sure they have the ones that you listed....Ahem, I was just waiting for my daughter....sort of....and I uh, glanced over at their booth.:what:

last time I saw something like that was about 1985. Local hobbyshop had a few of them. An ak-47, a 1911, and something else. They were not cheap. The ak-47 was something like $100.

Hi Simon

I'm going this weekend...it's called Franks Collectibles...but I'll get you the exact name and address this weekend.
It's off the 60 Fwy, west of Azusa Off Ramp....take the Fairway Dr. offramp and it is just about 4 blocks north of the freeway. (West of the 57 Fwy.), most of the vendors are there about 10:00 a.m. and I think they close around 3 p.m. (on Saturday) They're open Wednesday nights and Saturday days and it's an indoor swap meet.
Most of these guys will negotiate prices.....there's one Oriental guy that handles a lot of replica guns...he doesn't budge much. The other vendor will dicker with you.
There's another guy that has practice swords....all kinds...he was asking $50 for a Japanese sword set with scabbards and stand. Watch his bargain barrel...he was selling swords for $5.00 a couple of weeks ago.
But I'll get you the info this weekend, 'kay?

Another top maker of model gun kits was LS of Japan.
I think they still make tank and airplane kits, but I haven't seen a gun kit in many years.

Various makes of model gun kits do turn up on Ebay.

Watch for an old 1960's Luger kit by Accurate Scale???.

There are several old 60's American kits of the Single Action Colt, the Winchester 1873 and a variety of muzzle loading pistols.
These are pretty crude, but look nice on the wall.

Phew

Hi guys,
Had fun running around trying to find the vendors for your Japanese replica guns.
One vendor would not come up with a business card, e-mail address or anything other than the fact that all you have to do is look up the guns in E-Bay....other than that you have to be 18 or older to buy or even handle his replica guns at the indoor swap meet.
The swap meet is called Frank & Son Collectible show at 19649 E. San Jose Ave., City of Industry, Ca. 91748. Phone (909)444-7955.
E-mail address is frankandsonshow.com.
While cruising around looking for the vendors I found this new vendor who is really cool and knowledgeable . His place Infinite Hobbies, Inc.....e-mail address is [email protected]. These guys also carry neat swords, knives...etc..replicas of course.
In case you're interested in knives, swords, etc. vendor at www.kimscollect.com. he also has a gun shop? On the card it says "Inside Slim's gun shop. with his other business.
So, hope this helps you folks....good luck in finding what you're looking for.
