Okay, I like building SDM rifles. I have a fascination with them being one of the original SDM's and instructors in the army (best job ever for a gun nut!). One of my greatest challenges was accurizing a DSA STG58.

I found the Jard trigger, they make what is essentially a two stage trigger like the RRA trigger for an AR, but adjustable and with a hammer more like an FAL hammer. But it is basically just an adj. 2 stage AR trigger that fits in an FAL. From looking at their brochure, it seems that all the Jard triggers are pretty similar, so if you have one for an AR your advice would be applicable here I think.

I got it in there, I had some difficulty fitting parts so that the bolt didn't hang. I got a real nice trigger pull on it, after I drilled and tapped the trigger guard for a trigger stop it was just about perfect. This FAL has a nicer trigger than most AR's, only a tuned RRA or a Geissele is better --no BS, I have AR's sporting those exact triggers.

So I pull it out yesterday and to my surprise, the trigger was a hair trigger and you can't really feel the first stage. It kind of feels dangerous to me, mostly because of the noticeable change after just sitting for a couple of months. I haven't done anything to it so I'm suspecting the springs. This is one trigger that really came out of the box ready to go, so I did no stone work or polishing. Anyone else have this problem with a Jard trigger?

I know I need to loctite the screws, but I'm not ready for that and I can't see how that would affect this given it was just sitting --which is why I suspect the springs, but they are too small to test using Hooke's Law, and I have no data to compare anyway. So any advice on this in general, or any advice on a source for good springs that I can fit myself would be great.

Also, if anyone knows of a way to test the safety of the trigger, ie, how well it holds under stress, I'd like to know. I know you can drop it on the muzzle and find out real quick, but obviously that isn't something I want to do. Neither do I want to strike the hammer or anything else that would do damage. I want a good trigger, but I want a safe trigger too.

I'm not a gunsmith by trade, but I am very mechanically inclined and do all my own work. I get great results and don't tamper with stuff I don't fully understand --hence this post. I'll eventually figure it out, but any help or experience from others would be nice and speed things up a bit.

Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year!

Strykervet,I put a Jard 4 pound trigger in my match grade Bushmaster about 5 or 6 years ago.Nothing fancy just a straight 4 pounder. Yes it did lighten up a little but has stayed there as near as I can tell without a gage.Every AR savvy guy that has shoot it "likes that trigger".
