Gerald,Jerry is 82,infirm and rich.
He could not care less.
Breathing regularly is the only thing our man is concerned about.
Trust me.

Yeah right he didn't know it was in his luggage. Give me a break. He is rich infirm and isn't concerned about getting fined for anything.

How can he be cited for a non-working prop gun? When his attorneys challenge it, it will be dismissed in the interest of justice. The TSA has been running amock. Yep, all he has to worry about is regular breathing.

If I was flying to Detroit I would take a gun too.

The worse part is TSA is going to brag about how many guns they have prevented from being taken on an airplane. That means send more money.

Of course he uses a gun in his act, look up some of the old Jerry Lewis film clips. He was one of Hollywood's fastest guns. No kidding.

Here's a short video of another, Sammy Davis, Jr.

And for the heck of it, Sammy shooting up a bar with a Thompson in a film. It's at the end.

"Soon the event spread to Hollywood celebrities and western movie stars. Surprisingly, the fastest guns in Hollywood in the
early 60's were 1st = Jerry Lewis, 2nd = Sammy Davis Jr. and 3rd = Dean Martin."

Taking a fake gun in carryon luggage onto an airline flight is pretty stupid.

Most people that owns guns are pretty stupid I have found. Jerry being the exception.

Go figure, the entire world is nuts.

Of course Jerry Lewis used to be known for throwing suits away after wearing them only once. People with that much money to burn normally fly around in private aircraft.

Latest news says the gun was registered to him.

If he had a "blue card" (our registration card system here in Clark County) then it was real -- the cops here aren't gonna register a fake gun under our firearm ordinance. Say what you want about the TSA generally, but since Frontsight and the SHOT Show are here in Southern Nevada, our TSA folks in Vegas have certainly seen plenty of genuine firearms I'm sure.

Oh, heck, so what. He was stupid. He's old, prolly shouldn't be traveling alone to Detroit of all places.

bearmgc,

You're right. If the gun was unloaded and no ammo was found, who cares?
I feel for the guy, it was likely just a totally stupid oversight.

But it's a C class felony here to be popped with a concealed carry weapon and no permit. (Though who knows how this will end up since he is a big local celeb here... maybe no appetite for prosecution in the end ...)

Didn't this same thing recently happen at LAX to a somewhat has-been TV star???

Knowing Jerry, even at 82, as JohnBT has pointed out,he can probably handle himself firearms wise ,better than 90% of us on this board.
Beware the oldtimer who's trained and knows what he's doing.
Jerry will snuff you before you can say "God Bless You".

I hope I am still sufficiently ambulatory at 82 years that I can even get through an airport.

The bell curve works both ways...

For everyone with a 150 IQ, there's some guy with a 50...
Thank god there are very few of each...

I think Jerry is somewhere midway between those points.

One news report stated that Jerry "was tackled" upon discovery of the gun/prop gun. That must have been interesting.

...Dennis Farina...

The spirit of humanity and kindness makes a guy glow just to be here with such nice people. Expect the same compassionate support when you need it.

Senior moment, probably.

People in Lewis's career field probably travel a lot. Having the gun in your valise when you're being driven around is fine, but airplanes are different. His gun probably sat in his luggage all the time. Then he tried to get on a plane. Didn't think about it. Small mistake, big mistake.

I agree with Claymore. These folks should explain how exactly the "public" was endagered by what he did. He brought a hunk of metal on to a plane, he isn't a terrorist, he has flown many times, most likely a few times he had that thing with him. He is 82, has had to put of the with the crap that goes on in Hollywood and raising money for helpless kids...

How much more ungrateful can the TSA and .gov be? I notice he was good enough to use in their... I can't remember the name... was it GSO? Where they would send Bob Hope to the troops. Our government is increasingly using "pump 'em and dump 'em" as an ideology.
