"Will his AR lowers have flames milled in?"
No, but they will be grey and balding :neener:

My guess is the plan is total hogwash.
AR; makers are known for high-tech automated processes and futuristic super materials. Consistency is key. Engineering is key. Tactical is key. Peformance is measured ruthlessly with torture and endurance tests in the pursuit of induced failure at the furthest point beyond what is expected in use.

1911; makers are known as "Masters" for having attained the highest levels of mystical prowess in the black arts of massaging metal and the taming of triggers. An impenetrable veil of inexplicable costs and unappreciated crastsmanship awaits any neophyte whose hands would be unworthy of such skill and effort. The best makers craft each gun to fit the unique desires of their patrons, hand fitting and finishing every last part in the obsessive pursuit of ultimate refinement and excellence. "The best" will be capable of accuracy unimaginable to mere mortals, made of materials from distant lands lost to myth, and built with countless closely guarded secrets known only to the Guild.

With enough time and training, I fully believe JJ capable of the latter, but he's not there yet. The AR market doesn't really lend itself to the one-off custom crowd he's worked with in the past. Not sure what he's going for here, besides a Martha Stewart clothing line (but with guns) and the ubiquitous reality show? :scrutiny: That would seem to be the case, since 1911 and AR are merely the two most commonly marketed firearms these days, which is probably what his reality-show bosses' focus groups reflected

If it sells guns and people like it, then it's a good thing. I know who Ness is and his son, there was just a special on them a few weeks ago. Jessie still did a lot of tings with metal that were unique. Like that Copper bike. Many people like to target successful people who make it big in any field.
If it was that easy everyone could do it. He has a presence that can be used to further the pro gun cause, that's all that counts. You don't have to like the guy, but let's see what he comes up with before burning him to the cross. He's never been one to care what people thought of him, he just applies his craft and people seem to like it.
Personally I don't care who he was married to nor see what that has to do with guns or motorcycles. These people who become exposed to the lights and fame often lose their way at first. And don't forget the marketing will be done for the average joe, who watches "red jacket" and pays double for their guns", so anyone who comes along and gives them a little competition, is smart, why not cash in on your name, look at all the shows that have come and gone building guns and bikes. Half of them were just assembling kit's out of the box. If he contributes one new interesting piece of equipment, it will be worth it. He does have an interesting methodology as far as creating new things. Maybe something in Titanium.

Jesse James guns? He better hope Sandra doesn't buy one.

May not go well for him.

Seriously, I watched his chopper show for a bit, but it got old quickly.

Kudos for branching into other interests, but an AR and a 1911? I smell overpriced blingy safe queens.

If he's going to open up with custom AR-15's and 1911's, I couldn't think of anything more challenging.

I mean...he's got to come up with SOMETHING to compete with the existing custom market in order to be successful, right?

Quite frankly, I can't think of what he can offer in a custom AR-15 that would be anything special. It's already pretty much the ultimate "custom, do-it-yourself" platform, right? And that's the major appeal of that particular firearm.

I'm sure there will be a market for his products...but it remains to be seen how MUCH of a market there is and what kind of prices he'll be commanding for his product. He's an artist at the bikes, but unless his premium firearms pass the muster on performance as well he's not likely to go far.

Be cool to see his artistic input into the market, though, whatever it may be.

More over priced stuff built by someone else with a wanna be celebs name on it to jack the price up. I'll pass as I don't care for him or paying for already over priced guns.

Besides, when Jesse lived here in CA he didn't do squat to help us fight the .50 ban. Well, other then run out and buy a couple...

I am going to have to come in very strongly for Mr. James. I was at the "coming out" party last Saturday night in Austin. STI International is doing the heavy lifting on the 1911s, to James' specifics. I have gone on record as saying STI makes the best out-of-the-box 1911s in the world. I'll stand on that.

On the ARs, the uppers and lowers are from Houlding Precision...Todd builds some of the best ARs around...that's why even though the AR bubble has popped, there's a long waiting list for Todd's guns.

The ARs are built with premium parts...in fact, the same parts I use in my personal guns — MagPul furniture, Geisselle triggers, Wilson Combat or FNH hammer-forged barrels, BCM charging handle, Rubber City bolt carriers, etc. The brake is James' own design.

He and I talked a lot about his patented silencer, which, yes, looks uncannily like a sweet potato..."dude," he said, "I've spent my whole career on intake manifolds and exhaust systems..."

I haven't shot the guns, but I will. Custom is custom. I have at times paid a lot of money for custom guns, not because I thought they were tactical rockets or the ultimate anything, but because they were EXACTLY the way I wanted them.

Give the guy a chance. I don't give a damn who he sleeps with.

I think just the fact that his name is Jesse James helped to get him a lot further than anything. If his name was Poindexter Snodgrass... Would anybody care about this guy??

Meh...you publicly humiliate your wife, not to mention serially breaking the contract of marriage...and it may affect your business.

Or not. Depends on your clientele but the free market does have its advantages.

If we are going to make "honoring the marriage contract" a condition of being accepted as part of our gun culture, it's going to get MIGHTY LONELY around these parts!

LOL!

well, that's nothing to be proud of IMO but my point was that buyers have that info and can do with it what they choose, just like with politicians.

You're probably right tho....most people dont seem to care.

Those silencer baffles look rather lame. I wonder if they have any noise data on it?

I wish JJ a lot of luck ! He's going to need it !

Building functional, reliable and durable firearms ( where .0001" is a significant number") is a far cry from bikes where +/- .003" is tolerable ! >MW

He's marketing contracted out guns built to his specs, with the Jesse James logo. That logo only make the gun worth less to me. YMMV, but on my list of 10,000 guns I'd want to own, it's not.

Soooo...

He's not actually going to be the craftsman for the work? Seems kinda silly to me. I can already contract out to have a gun built to my own specs, inclusing having my own logo put on it.

:scrutiny:

Jesse James is a master at his trade as a metal worker. I would not go as far to say that he is the best but he is certainly one of the most well rounded metal workers in the trade. That being said, guns are mostly made of metal and I'm sure he has the skill set to produce quality firearms on his own however, this does not seem to be a get rich on gun building scheme as much as it is a celebrity stunt put on by a television network and/or gun shops to promote the companies, Jesse is just an actor in this case. If you ask me, it looks like positive media exposure for the firearm community. I also don't care what kind of morals he holds just as I don't care what kind of morals john browning held. I am a gun, motorcycle, and aircraft enthusiast and work on all of these things. I am not into caring about what others are doing on their spare time, if they build/promote a quality product and I am attracted by the form and function of said product, I will buy it.

From what I read his bike building business only made money on the accessories, the cost of the custom bikes themselves were more than the market would bear. Anyone buying his logo'ed stuff is most likely wasting their money, especially on the silencer. Time will tell.
