I just picked up a S&W M&P 4th change .38 serial #506XXX w/ a 5" barrel. I would like to carry this pistol occasionally while hiking and want to load it with standard pressure JHP ammo. My normal .38 carry ammo is doubletaps 125gr +P gold dots. I know buffalo bore makes a standard pressure LSWCHP that should do the trick, but are there any other decent choices? I'm leaning twords the Magtech .38 Special 158 Gr. SJHP since it should generate ~825-850 fps from a 5" barrel.

In most instances these revolvers were "regulated" to shoot to point of aim at 20 yards, while using 158 grain bullets at aroumd 800 fps. I would suggest you experiment with loads in this range and pick whatever shoots best to the point-of-aim. Accuracy is your best friend when you don't have raw power.
