as an airgunner you'll understand. We have weekly 10 meter matches and I've used my Walther LPM-1 single stroke pneumatic all along. Had the thing for 10 years now, and hold my own against all the new guys with their pre-charged guns. But the air compressing lever broke and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. So for the last match I borrowed a Steyr LP10.

Wow. Scores abruptly rose. There is absolutely no recoil or other movement of firing. First few shots I had to double check, thinking I had forgotten to load a pellet. Excellent sights and grip. And less work, too.

So I called Pilkington and ordered one. I was a generation or more behind in air pistol technology, but now I'll be cutting edge. Ever try one?

Nooooooo!

Not the dark side...

I've so far sucessfully avoided the PCP guns. But they are nice, have to admit it. And the Steyr airguns have a great reputation--congratulations!

BTW, you realize that you will never be able to explain to 99.9999% of the people in the world why it's reasonable to spend 4 figures on a "BB gun". ;)

You might want to check out this airgun forum now that you're a confirmed airgunnut.

In my little NH town

when I first arrived 10 yr ago I was the only airgunner. I persuaded a shooting friend to try my basement 10m range a couple of times and within a month he had bought a FWB P34. For a couple of years it was only we two shooting every Tues. night, then little by little we drew more people until we had to move to a friend's barn because of space problems.

Now we have matches every Thurs. PM usually with 8 shooters in relays of 4. Two weeks ago several shooters who had been borrowing guns for a few months were ready to take the plunge, and we called Pilkington then and there and ordered 3 LP10s at one shot.

When I decided to get a serious air pistol my ideal was the FWB 65 MkII, but I couldn't find one. The Beeman people basically jerked me around (there was a change in ownership going on and the confusion delayed my order for so long that I cancelled) and finally I found the Walther LPM1 at Champion's Choice. I've been quite happy with it but lately it's been getting harder and harder to get the scores I used to get. Some of this has to be simple wear and tear, and of course my eyesight isn't getting any better at 52. It's also possible that with a strange gun you revert to basics of grip, stance, etc. thus cancelling a bunch of little bad habits you didn't know you had acquired. Anyway, the firing behavior of this gun has to be felt to be believed.

My first air gun was a Beeman R8 which I still shoot. Got it in 1986 and it's on its second mainspring and going strong. Airguns are great--especially at this time of year in the North country.
