I notarized my NFA Trust today (done by The Law Office of John Pierce in VA) and promptly eFiled a Form 1 for a 8" long .308 caliber can to be used on my 5.56 AR as well as my upcoming 300 BLK AR pistol.

Pretty excited to say the least.

What kind of lead times are people seeing for eFile Form 1's these days?

4-6 weeks. I had one approved right at 4 weeks a few months ago. Going to submit another to SBR a rossi ranch hand in the next few days.

Welcome aboard. Once you go NFA, there is no going back. :D

eForms are reported to be floating around a month or so. Paper forms (3 and 4), at least my experience in this last year or so, are taking an eternity. Some have reported quicker turn around times in recent memory, but that has not been my experience.

That's not too bad, plus it gives the "solvent trap" manufacturer time to get the Ti endcaps that were at SHOT SHOW to the market...

I just had a paper form 4 approved in 3 1/2 months. Submitted in September and approved 1/2/15, They are quoting 4-6months now. I guess they beefed up staff and allowed unlimited OT. I think there are now 24 or 27 agents approving the paper work. At least that is what I heard.

I actually had an eform get approved in 1 day, but it was a fluke. I wasn't complaining though!

That is good to hear. I have a Form 4 from early May of last year that is still pending. Ditto a Form 4 from September.

Have you ever called on either of those?

Yes, on both, at least a few weeks ago. Neither are in a problem status, just pending. I should call them again to see what is up. I do know, however, that people who submitted F4s in that time frame (particularly summer of 14) experienced unbelievable wait times, so it is possible I just got "lucky".

Yeah that sucks, sorry man.

Because of the latest interpretation on braces, I would expect applications to go up substantially and wait times to lengthen.

I'm curious why one would consider government oversight of their firearms to be joining an elite group with exclusive membership. The specific benefits in whole have some offsetting disadvantages - which aren't insignificant.

It's having the US Government approve the purchase on a case by case basis - which in no way resembles what the 2A is all about.

The provisions of the NFA are Constitutionally no different than the NY SAFE act or CA AWB. They are a deliberate imposition on our rights. I've yet to understand how or why that creates a status to be yearned for. In the extreme it would be like saying someone wanted to move to Britain or Australia just because they wanted oversight on their firearms ownership, or, lack of it.

We need to quit glorifying a Government intrusion on our rights as if it was something good. It's not "joining a club." It's registering with the government as a firearms owner and submitting your application for approval. Not too much different than being placed on parole - and you committed no crime.

There is no happy and joyful defense of this Act - and making apologetics for is something that needs to be called into account. There was a time when the citizens of America were free to purchase a short barreled machine gun with suppressor and have it literally mailed to their home no questions asked other than will the check clear.

What have we allowed to be taken from us? Our freedom.

Should I have instead said, "Joining the suppressor club?" I mean, this is, after all, the "NFA Firearms and Accessories" sub-forum.

Perhaps I'm not excited about asking .gov for their permission so much as I'm excited about starting on a project I've wanted to do for a long time now? Perhaps I'm aware of the issues that going forward without submitting to the regulations presents to my wife and daughter, and would rather not put them in that situation?

If it is so egregious to you that I'm excited to start my project and have "register[ed] with the government as a firearms owner and submitt[ed] [my] application for approval," then I would suggest that you look deep into your mirror and ask yourself if you didn't do the exact same thing when you applied for your CCW permit.

I spent 22 years in the Army Reserves, Infantry Ordnance Military Police, and served as a Military Police officer when deployed. But - when I applied for a CCW, my training was not recognized by the State, I was required to attend a class and also shoot to demonstrate proficiency.

Why didn't you simply risk the Class D felony that MO 571.0030 carries for concealing a firearm?

Requiring a permit to carry a gun, concealed or not, is just as much of an infringement as the NFA.

So, think what you want, but, please, keep it to yourself if you're just going to crap on the thread.

January 24 to March 18. Just got my approved form 1 eFile back.

I think the snow storms delayed it a little.
