Well, it's happening. Anyone can be lethal from a distance now.

Rebel groups in Iraq, Syria using remote-controlled guns

Published September 02, 2016 FoxNews.com

Remotely-operated sniper rifles and machines guns are becoming a powerful weapon for rebel groups in Iraq and Syria -- including the Islamic State -- allowing fighters to kill with the ease of pressing a button.

The remote-controlled guns -- common in the U.S. military -- are being adopted by the Free Syrian Army, Shia militias and Kurdish fighters in Iraq as well as jihadist groups, like ISIS, the blog WarIsBoring.com reported.

Such guns are used by militaries around the world in countries like Israel and South Korea. The U.S., which has thousands mounted on tanks and vehicles, is testing out a new machine-gun robot called MAARS, the blog reported. But the remotely-controlled guns are growing in numbers among rebel groups looking for a cheap way to operate deadly weapons using personal computers and cameras.

Expect we will see these used against prominent personalities before long.

Bruce Willis used a remotely controlled gun in the movie The Jackal to shoot at a prominent figure way back in 1997

Its an obvious application of modern robotics and video technology, motivated by our ability to quickly call in artillery to dispatch a sniper.

What will really cause a stir is the first time a photography drone is outfitted with a gun or a bomb for a high profile murder.

Yes, and "The Lone Gunmen" (short lived X-files spin-off) had a remote controlled airliner flying towards the World Trade Center well before 9/11

But the remote control technology is much cheaper and more accessible now.

Yeah 10 years ago it was Hollywood special effects but today it has been refined and gets better and cheaper each day.

It's easy enough to DIY that several states passed laws against "remote control hunting" years ago.

I built this one to play with.

That said, I am a good guy and have harmed nothing except steel and paper with it.

People that want to hurt you can do it with a shovel, poop and sticks. People that don't want to hurt anyone could have just about anything and not hurt anyone.

I made a mount for one of these to adapt it to a Humvee for FN. That's what made me want a cheap version to play with.

Automated homemade 'Sentry Guns' have been popular with folks using paint ball markers for quite a while. Simple to use a real gun instead of a toy. Youtube has a number of them.
