Just a question about comparisons.

I have hit a bit of a snag with my guns and are wondering what people recommend.

I have a number of handguns, and I like them all for various purposes. But as a general carry and CCW gun I can't decide, therefore I'm hoping for some feedback.

My Glock 30 .45 ACP is a great gun, but not quite as accurate as I would like, same problem with my Bersa FireStorm 9mm, meanwhile my Ruger MKII .22 white devilishly accurate doesn't pack the punch of a carry gun. My full frame steel IWI Jericho (Baby Eagle) .40S&W in just a bit too large and my Star BM 9mm compact doesn't have the mag capacity.

Should I looking for another gun, or forget the "put it through his eye" accuracy and go with the Glock or the Bersa or sacrifice the mag capacity and go with the Star?

All of these guns work flawlessly, I am just torn between size, mag capacity and accuracy. While I know for a fact that I can put a bullet through a quarter at 15 yards with the Desert Eagle, and come close to that with the Star (after taking into account it shoots a touch to the right) I am no comfortable trying to conceal the Eagle and not satisfied with the Star's 8+1 mag capacity.

Accuracy can be important, but reliability is king. I don't feel under gunned with a five shot J frame .38+P. I can stand carrying it all day, so I do. I wouldn't worry about hitting a quarter at fifteen yards, most encounters happen within five yards without time for you to carefully aim your shots. See what you can point shoot and hit with rapidly up close. We're not cops or military personal, if you shoot someone in the eye at fifteen yards your gonna be in a world of legal hurt.

+1 for JAV8000. Forum member SaxonPig had a good expression for this I read once - "accurate to within 1 minute of enemy soldier." You just have to hit a man-sized target at any reasonable distance you would need to defend - probably 15' or less!

A 2" j-frame 38 is one of the all-time great carry guns. One of my personal favorites is a 2.5" K-frame .357 (model 19). get something accurate enough and easy to shoot and carry. Most gun fights end with less than three rounds fired on each side. On average, a five shot .38 will get you through two entirely different SD scenarios before you need to reload it.

Sorry I forgot to clarify a few things. While I am a damn good target shooter, I have practiced at close range for combat situations and have been found by certified outside observers to to be "well above average" to the point that police have asked me to teach them because I "must be ex-military" in truth I will be joining the military shortly, but as my father noted I have a natural talent with firearms.

My main question is magazine capacity vs. accuracy. As you point out well Oro, capacity should not be a major concern, as you carry a 5 shot revolver. I also like J frames, but mine is in for repairs. However, where I live meth addiction is a serious problem and most home invasions are carried out by multiple persons. While I carry the gun the the street, I am also interested in having a handgun that can serve equally well against multiple targets inside my home as I may not always be able to reach my Remington Wingmaster 12 guage with it's shortened riot barrel.

I doubt that a handgun exists that is so inaccurate is isn't suitable for self defense, so if you must make a choice between the two, I would go with capacity.

You will get a lot of wide range opinions on a carry/house gun. Most will come down to personal prefference. Reliabiliti is a must. I preffer a full frame 45 for home, and compact or subcompact for carry. I also preffer a showpiece for a carry gun. My main carry gun is Karh MK40 and I carry Seecamp instead on many occasions. I consider J frame a good choice. As I don't plan on getting into prolonged gun battles with the thugs, high capacity and high accuracy guns are not my priority.

If I can't settle my business with 9 10mm's my marksmanship and my tactics suck and I'm outta there.
