Okay so this is just my general curiosity getting to me before ship date. Would you rather have a classic plain looking firearm, say a AK74 with wood furniture basic iron sights simple leather sling, or a "tactical" AK74 with rails and lasers and flashlights and an eotech sight. Just for general use, plinking, hunting, etc. Same thing with an AR, would you rather have the classic looking basic M16 looking AR with iron sights, ect... Or one of those jacked up "tactical" money pit looking ones? Pretty much what im asking is would you rather have a classic simple looking rifle or one with a lot of stuff on it. THIS IS NOT A AK VS AR DEBATE.

Consider me a purest but I would like a stock AK. Besides, I feel really comfortable with open sights. But if I were in a combat zone, and am defintely not , then I would like the upper hand using technology.

If I wanted "classic," I wouldn't be looking at an AR/AK anyway.

This.
When I think "classic" I think of my pre'64 Model 70 in .270win with original Lyman scope on it. That thing is about as classic as it gets.

When I think of tools for defense, plinking etc... AK and AR come to mind. In the case of those specific rifles I'd prefer a stock, as issued, wood furniture AK, and an AR with very few frills. I could see a red dot sight of some kind on the AR, along with a tactical light (like a Streamlight TLR1 or similar) on a front rail but that's pretty much it.

When I think "Rifle" in a classic sense of the word I generally think a blued steel and wood rifle as in a hunting rifle. Be it bolt action, semi-auto or lever gun I tend to see a hunting rifle.

When it comes to AR type rifles if I do apply the word "classic" I pretty much see what I guess would be plain Jane flavors.

I don't even own a rifle with a collapsible stock let alone any whistles and bells. Heck, the fancy one is the one with the scope on it.

Tacticool is fine if it trips someone's trigger. I just have no use for it. Just a matter of personal taste and my rifles reflect what works for me. The same is true of my handguns.

If you stay with firearms shooting & collecting, you'll discover that you'll end up with both kinds. Both are fun to shoot.

I. HATE. TACTICOOLS.

AK47 is a classic assault rifle, very much a legend in it's own right.

Which is different from a classic bolt action / hunting rifle. But still, classic.

1 optic, sling.

I don't need afg's front vertical grips or bipods. Give me one good 4x optic and a sling.

I usually prefer "classic" in the sense used here, with the option for add-ons. My M4gery was a pain to get sighted with my aging eyes and iron sights, but with a cheap BSA red dot on it, I had no trouble grouping 4" at 50 yards. Now, to you (and to me in my younger days) that ain't any kind of great shooting, but it did what I wanted for now a days.

And, also nowadays, as issued on the military ARs, the "iron sights" are merely backups, right? So even a red dot is a "classic" in that sense, right?

I would have absolutely no use for a light or a laser. And, if I recall correctly, the only firearm I've ever owned which had a "rail" was a Taurus PT92, many years ago. The more I looked at it, the sillier it looked. It soon found a new home.

i want the most effective option. given a choice between equally effective options, i'll take the simpler one. i don't care what it looks like

I keep my rifles clean and simple. For AR's/AK's, I like lightweight with good iron sights. Only exception is possibly an "always on" optic.

Classic for both for the roles mentioned, but slight jacking up for other things like defense. If it's just for shootin' fun and huntin', classic all the way! LOVE me some wood, steel, and leather!

Anything pre 64 from Winchester, Pre-takeover for Remington/Marlin along with walnut and blue steel.

heres what i would say, AKs look better with original ak mags (steel or bakelite), and without rails or any tactical crap. now with ARs, i think they look good plain, like an M16A1 or A2, but theres not a thing wrong with putting on rails and loading it down with optics, foregrips, tac-lights and whatnot

overall though i think most guns look better plain with wood with maybe just a scope, but i don't hate tacticool stuff, some guns just don't look good with it and some do
