Just a Thought

When I've been asked if I own any assault rifles, I say "No, but I do own several defense rifles"....

Where would weapons come from for the . . . . .

new Commissar's "Civilian National Security Force"? And why isn't that Force named the "...National DEFENSE ..." Force? Would militia members ("Here's my ID Card") be permitted to enlist? Would legal gun-owners be redefined in order to confiscate their arms? (Mods, you let JHK94's snide comment stand. Please let mine get a few comments, aside from your comment about it maybe being non-pertinent?) Fair is fair. I really do wonder what a Security Force might be obligated and empowered to do in these years. The Powers in DC can already declare "Internet Emergency" and ban any site, ISP, or person they deem worthy. Do we frogs in the pot feel the H²O heating up?

Sport-Utility

I always got a kick out of "Sport Utility Rifle"

I own two of those.

No, really.

What did you imagine the "SU" part of SU-16 meant?

Some time ago, I tendered the idea of using "General Purpose Rifle" (GPR).

Nowadays I lean toward "Utility Rifle" in casual conversation. However, it's easier to rattle off "GPR" than it is to say "UR" or even "SUR" when talking to someone.

Sporter

Oh, and I almost forgot . . .

"Sporting Rifle."

Yes, Really.

Come on, guys! Surely you all remember the Colt Sporter, right?

Of course you do!

JHK94.....about the "Democrat Gun"....I take it you think he named that to kill Americans with opposing views...?....I took it as a mockery since a large number of anti's, at least in the senate an congress are Democrats, they would be naturally opposed to a gun being named after them.....you could be right an I could be wrong, but that was my take.

I always liked calling my AR an "Implement of destruction" from the movie HERO's with Henry Winkler......but I probably should start calling it something else, "SUR" does sound pretty good, kinda makes it sound like something grandma would like to have.

Certainly I could be wrong:

But what is a "deer gun" for? how about a "varmint rifle"? "rabbit gun"? It's for shooting those things. It's not that it's named after them.

I guess I'm the bad guy now, but I find it disturbing to make that kind of statement. Sure, its a joke (I assume), but still, it just hurts the cause of firearms ownership.

JHK94....I don't think your a bad guy, you have a good point. If your right, I agree 100% with you that its disturbing even if it is a joke, an doesn't help the cause...

General Purpose Rifle

Continuing in that vein . . .

Y'all may remember what happened to the last item whose name started with "general purpose" . . . no?

General Purpose Vehicle.

GPV.

JeepV.

Jeep.

This according to a WWII vet I knew who described the etymology of the word Jeep.

So . . .

Does that mean that a GPR is a Jeep Rifle?

Mines an EBR or "the epitome of evil"

Although I might have to borrow "Democrat gun":cuss:

Oh wait, nevermind, I lost that one in the boating accident.

This is my .45, I hunt with a 30.06 or a 30.30 or a .270 or a 12ga or a .22! Seems sort of a common sense thing to refer to it as my .223
