Okay here we go,

Have a debate (friendly bet if you will) about which 1911 model is prefered the most by you, the readers and posters of THR.

So have at it and please leave comment as to why to your choice.

And remember keep it civilized and professional, no arguing or fighting save that kinda stuff for you PM's PLEASE and THANK YOU.

One last thing... This is, as I said before, a poll to kinda solve a debate between two THR memebers, so PLEASE we don't want to hear "but what about this model?" and "your forgot to mention this model." or "WHAT no ______?" (____ being any model other than those specified in the poll) Please understand and thank you.

Springfield 1911 Its simple and it eats everything I feed it. Plus it didnt cost more than 2 months rent:eek:

Love those GSR's

Plus another, I have three of the 4. I like my Colt and Sig best. The SA, well it was made in Brazil. BTW I'm not sure of the validity of this poll. As mentioned elsewhere you are comparing 3 companies who have built 1911's for quite sometime and in large number vs a company who has only recently been manufacturing them. I doubt the number of people with first hand experience with all the above can be counted above a handful.

My experience with Springers is that they are rock solid.

My bro has a Mil-Spec and my grandpa has a Full Size Loaded. Both are awesome handguns. I am saving for an MC Operator right now. So of the choices you listed, I would have the pick the Springer.

Colt and Springfield

Springfield has nice features; night sights, beavertail, etc. I have an MC that is great.
Colt is just classic, and holds resale value. My XSE shoots fine.
I like how Sigs look, but I used to work at a shooting range and the Sig 1911s would always be out of comission. Granted they were 1st gen Sig 1911s but it left a bad impression on me.
I shot a friend's Kimber once and it seemed ok. I just don't like the short warranty on them. That and there's a few horror stories about the series II floating on the net.

The Springfield and Colt have lifetime warranties.

Good luck.

I have the Kimber Eclipse Target. It is a great shooter. I also have a SS Pro (9mm) that is awsome as well. I guess if they had a baby it would be good too.:D GI and Milspec don't have the extras I like. Colt is too much money for what they offer. Sig just looks kind of funny to me. Buy one of each!!!

I'm getting a Dan Wesson on Friday. I'm going to compare it to my Kimbers and write it up. I've heard too many good things and not enough bad thing to ignore them any longer. When I held it and stripped it at the gunshop, it was very impressive.

I dont know what to vote for.

My ideal 1911 is a series I kimber with a standard guide rod, no front cocking serrations, plain milspec rear sight, and kimber rubber grips. Since I own four series I kimbers, anything but a kimber beavertail feels weird. I prefer mil-spec rear sights because I get a sight picture that works for me and I get a free slide-racker. I like their rubber grips because they aren't real "grippy" like the houges and they dont slim down in the mag catch area like Pearce grips on my rimfire 1911 do. The extended safety and mag release arent extended to the point where they're too big.

So at the moment, Kimber has the pistol I want. Unfortunatly they do extra machining on it (rear dovetail, series II safety, front serrations) and it ruins it for me. I dont care if they stick a FLGR in it, I have a short guide rod and matching spring plug waiting for it. Or the next series I kimber in the case that I can afford. I wonder if 10-8 has sights for kimbers yet...

Well, when it comes to 1911's I'll take a Colt, but in a pinch I would consider a Springfield. :)

I said SA but out of the ones you mention --it's the only one I own and the only one I've shot. But my SA works great

Springfield, reason.....a custom 1911 builder told me a Springfield TRP is the best 1911 off the shelf, the loaded was a good seacond.

Personally, I don't think very highly of the four choices so I'd have to go with the Colt.

SIGs are overpriced. Kimbers are too hit and miss and have that Series 80 safety. SA, I won't own a gun made in Brazil unless its a .22 rimfire. Besides, their 1911s are quirky. They use a 9mm firing pin and the ejector legs are out of spec (not to mention they glue them in place).

So Colt wins in my book.

Out of your 4 choices, I picked the Colt and Springfield (I am happy with my RIA Tactical). I carried a Colt while in the Army and checked out the Springfield when I bought my Rock Island.

A Colt is always the right answer!

And when it is not I go with Springfield.

And one last parting shot....did some of you actuallu read the OP's post?

It look to me like everyone here pretty much did. I haven't seen a single gripe. I think this poll/thread has moved along smoothly.

Some years ago I bought a parkerized Springfield with a 5" barrel and high visibility sights for $350. I added a bushing compensator and heavy duty recoil spring and full length recoil spring guide rod with built in "shock absorber" for $100. I only fire 230 gr. lead round nose reloads and Federal 230 gr. Hydra-Shoks. I am happy to say I have never had a malfunction. Don't know exactly but it's digested many rounds.

well I must say this poll didn't go really far but it did serve it's purpose. The friendly bet was won by the other guy and he knows it.
Thank you all for participating in this poll, we really do appreciate it and hope that in the future you will show the same attitude and manners that you've shown here. Thank you once again from myself to you all.
