Just Bought a Kel-Tec P-11

Went to the gun show today & wound up leaving with a Kel-Tec P-11. I haven't fired it yet (I have to find some reasonably priced 9mm first). I have just brought it home and cleaned it, but I do have some questions. First I notice that the magazine does not drop free it will come out but I have to put my fingers on it & pull it. Also when reinserting the magazine I have to play with it-get it on just the right angle to get it to go in. Will this wear in with use? My next question is after purchasing this gun & starting home with it I was looking at it and dry fired it several times feeling of the trigger. When I was reassembling the gun I noticed in the manual it says "Do not dry fire your pistol. As with any gun dry firing should be avoided." I have dry fired my Ruger & XD many times with no problems so did not expect that to be an issue. How likely is it that I have damaged this firearm by dry firing? Anyway any feedback I can get from those who have experience with this gun would be appreciated. If I can get some ammunition this week I'll take it out next weekend & see how it shoots/How reliable it is.

I would say unlikely that you have damaged it from dryfiring it as I have done just that with even my P3at on several occasions without any issue.... as far as the other, I was handling a P11 earlier today... no issues with the mag releasing or reinserting it.... in fact, it reinserted pretty smoothly... be better with a mag well, but it is a pocket pistol after all..

Sounds like the mag release is a little tight. Should wear in with use. Yes, KT warns against dry firing. I've had to do it when I shot the thing in IDPA competition to show clear. I haven't had any problems, but I don't make a habit of dry firing the gun without a snap cap in the chamber. Problem is the speed of the hammer. It's a low mass hammer which relies on speed. This keeps the possibility of drop firing to a minimum. It's hard on the firing pin, though, if dry fired.

I've been carrying mine for a dozen years now, many thousands of trouble free and accurate rounds thorough it. Neat little carry gun and I actually have fun shooting it. Some complain of the recoil. The gun is light, but not that bad, especially with standard velocity ammo. +P has a little more pop to it, but I limit the +P in the gun.
