JUST BOUGHT IT
WELL, AS REAGAN USED TO SAY, I BOUGHT A S&W 696 44 SPECIAL THIS WEEKEND. AFTER LOOKING FOR A FEW WEEKS AND HANDLING MANY SMALL REVOLVERS, I DECIDED ON THIS DUDE.

I KNOW THERE ARE SMALLER AND LIGHTER REVOLVERS IN THIS CATEGORY BUT, IN MY HAND, IT JUST FELT RIGHT! SEE GUY'S AND GAL'S, I AM USED TO HANDLING RUGER REDHAWKS AND SUPER REDHAWKS IN 44MAG, WITH SCOPES. I ALSO HAVE A 6" COLT 357MAG. TO ME, THIS GUN FELT LIGHT BUT YET HEAVY AND SOLID IN COMPARISON. IT ALSO FELT MORE SOLID THAN SOME OTHER MODELS AND BRANDS I HANDLED.

NOW FOR GRIPS AND A HOLSTER, I'LL FIND THOSE THIS WEEK SOMETIME. ACTUALLY, THE GRIPS THE GUN HAS NOW FEEL GOOD BUT, I WANT SOME NICE LOOKING AND FEELING WOOD GRIPS TOO.

I AM STILL CONFUSED ON WHAT THE LETTER REPRESENT ON THE FRAMES, J, K, L, N AND Q, R, S, T, . I LOOKED AT VARIOUS REVOLVERS AND CATEGORIZED THEM INTO, SQUIRRLEY, MEDIOCRE, BEEFY, AND BAD! ROFL THEN BOUGHT ONE.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP IN ANSWERING QUESTIONS I HAVE POSTED IN THE PAST, I APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT AND TIME SPENT.

NOW, TELL ME VERY GOOD AMMO TO USE. ONLY REAL PURPOSE I SEE IS CLOSE RANGE PROTECTION, WHICH IS WHAT I BOUGHT THE GUN FOR. ONE OTHER THING, WHERE CAN I GET A FRONT SIGHT WITH A TRITIUM DOT?

As one poster said, light and fast, or heavy and slow are your choices.

As to the front tritium dot, I know that www.trijicon.com has a cusom installation wing. I would check with them.

S&W frames are designated by a letter. Going from smallest to largest they are, J, K, L and N (and they may add a new one = X).

Your new 696 is based on the "L" size.

Thanks Dave, I noticed, then read the thread on .44 special ammo after I posted this.

I have noticed some of the PC guns have a Tritium Front dot. That's why I was asking.
I'll contact S&W and see what they can suggest.

Old Fuff, thanks! I didn't know if they were suppose to look like there letters or what? Hehe I summized size was the case, but for all I knew it was years, or model catagories.

Yea Dave, I was cruising those PC's and noticed that one, thought hmmmm, interesting! Need to do that, somehow.

Great Choice

I have had one since they were introduced. A dream to shoot. Fellas, you may want to grab one if yoy are thinking about it, S&W has discontinued them. Now every big bore revolver person out there is searching.

Got a clean, ANIB example at the last show. Blasted it yesterday, and I'm pleased so far. A few mods will bring it right up to speed for my tastes.
