On my lunch hour(2 hours actually)I bought a s/w 642-2 airweight....$399.I had sold some old music equipment(cymbals)and used the money for my new pocket ccw.....Now a question.....if I carry the new 135 gr +p's and maybe shoot them once in a great while, will I blow this little guy up?I'm talking just enough shots to know where it shoots.I'm sure I'll be using light loads most of the time(this gun is super light).....I'll have a range report on monday...

AFAIK, the 642-2 is +P rated, should say so on the gun barrel. In other words, you should be fine with your plan

Welcome to the 642 Club!:D

You should be fine. I always put at least 1 cylinder of +P through it every time mine goes to the range, and I expect this gun to outlive me.

Now make sure you get signed up in the 642 Club thread. :D

me too

I also purchased a 642 today on my lunch break. I know 3 people who carry these guns every day and rave about them, so after shooting one several times, I went and got it. It was my first handgun purchase, and I feel pretty solid about it.

Also my first post at THR... finally registering after a few years of lurking.

good luck!

tskog - welcome to THR. for other 642 shooters, my wife has mine, and has entered a relaionship with it. i call it GONE. she has Crimson Trace grips and when she lets me shoot it, i have some double action fun. i get a two handed grip, hold the gun about belt buckle high and twist my body a little to get windage and tip the muzzle up or down a little for elevation. it is easy to chase that red dot all over a silhouette target. wife just holds center and blows a big hole in it.

dont seem to hurt it to shoot it lots cause she gets going and keeps on going and going. i get a few cylinders out of it and she thinks i am having too much fun and takes it back and starts having some of her own.

lucky is the man that has a 642 and even luckier if he has a wife that loves to shoot, and, reloads her own by the K as she shoots it by the K

my 642 had a sorry triger when i got it. everyone said it would improve with use. it did and is a normal good SnW trigger now. get some snap caps and "kill" everything that moves on your TV. no point wasting all that time cocked back in the recliner without doing something for the shooting sport.

Some info please...

First post - just found the site tonight. I think I like what I see...

Am thinking about a 642 - had one in my hot little hands today and almost pulled the trigger (so to speak). I'd like to gather more 642 info. I am seeing the '642 club' on this thread. OK - is it somewhere on this sight? or am I a newbie that missed something? I've got 3 other Smiths now.

Thanks, the kurch man.........

Welcome to the club! The 642 is my most frequent carry gun. I feed mine a steady diet of +P with no ill effects. For carry, I'd recommend the Remington 158gr +P LSWCHP - the "FBI Load". Your results may vary but I find that my 642 shoots to point of aim with 158gr bullets.

I just purchased a 642-2 last week, but won't be able to pick it up till next monday (10 day waiting period). I also ordered a set of CT grips from Midway that should arrive this week. Also, today I ordered up a couple hundred rounds for Speer Gold Dot 135gr ammo from Mirage Technologies.

Congratulations. If you're with pocket carry, you may want to check out Eagle's "Secret Service" grip in either rosewood or polymer. I love mine. They are very thin so if you have really big hands, they may not work for you.
