Just Doesn't Add Up

Question for those that cast for 30-30...if powder coating, does it matter if the mold is set up for gas checks or not. If not using a gas check, is there a "do not exceed velocity" (using Eastwood Ford Blue) and, is there a way to apply gas checks with just a Lee press...I do not have a lube sizer.
Guess that was 3 questions....

I actually loaded my first 30-30 rounds last year. I had everything I needed except dies and suitable projectiles. I acquired both off forums selling sections.

If I had to buy everything under today’s prices, I’d probably just pass for now. That’s coming from a guy that has lots of other choices though.

400 rounds isn’t a need unless your just wanting to shoot a lot. If that’s the case you probably won’t stop there or is the 400 number not arbitrary?

…1000 rounds, and given the rate I go thru rifle ammo, that's enough to last both me and my son's lifetime.

That doesn’t sound like a lot of shooting at all only 500 rounds per lifetime between the two of you.

How about you just buy another box for now and add to it once the supply chain is restored?

That’s what I would have done except I do like being independent from market fluctuations.

I would not buy factory ammo right now. If they can't sell me primers, I have no need for their ammo or their BS. I'd take up archery before I'd put a factory round through any of my firearms.
that’s the plan! when one company owns all the primers they control control control. Never think a group fat cats in a board room has your best interest. always follow the $$$$

They needed cut down. Doc Holliday was there Huckleberry... It's like saying I have, or am what you need and am willing to provide.

Edit to add. Should have read the whole thread first.
confusing bumper sticker on my Prius. Maybe that’s why those Bro-Dozer truck keep ridding my bumper.

note: don’t road rage people, especially if your a daily carry person. Throw your ego out the way and avoid fights!

Thanks, I was under the impression I needed something like a form tool to crimp the gas check in place...but that makes sense, it just gets sized onto the base when running it thru the die

Dirty little secret time: the cast bullets and gas checks for .32-20 fit a Marlin lever gun in .30-30 perfectly. The .309" cast bullets made for .30 carbine make really good high-speed plinking loads in Winchester .30-30's. So do the JSP/JHP 110's for .30Carbine but they're kinda pricey. If you want FAST out of a .30-30, that's one way to get it, though. The Winchester feed ramp and lifter don't mind short loads too much. ;)
