Hi all,

I'm going to be in San Diego from the 7th to the 11th of December (a warm-up to our Christmas in South Beach on the other coast :) ), and I just got off the phone with a friend who's just moved out to San Diego. He proposed swinging by my hotel at 0800 on Saturday the 10th and taking me to the Crossroads of the West gun show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

I don't know why this is so amusing to me, but I just love that I'll be going to a gun show in CA. :p

So, what should I expect to see there? Wheel locks? Single-shot .22 short bolt actions from the '30s? Dianne Feinstein buying extra mags for the newest hi-cap 9mm on her permit?

I'm sure there'll be jerky, Nazi memorobilia and a stinky bathroom, but other than that . . . well, it'll be an adventure for me!

If anyone else will be there, feel free to extend kindness to an out-of-state traveller . . .

cheers, erich

Ms. Feinswine can't legally own a handgun anymore - she's a resident of San Francisco.
No kiddin? LOL. That's too funny. I wonder how she will weasle out of this one.

When you go through the gate, Hang a left and see if the NRA GrassRoots booth is set up there. If so, say hi to the guys for me, will you? Thanks.

Pops (They will know me as "Armed and Safe")

Expect beanie babies and jerky though a deal can be found here and there if you are dilligent. The knife dealers can have good prices too. I think this is the show venue that is the fairgrounds for SD too I believe that is trying to keep armed off duty LE off their property too!

There will be no "assault weapons" or over 10 round magazines or as big a variety of new handguns as a show where you are from.

Look for jerky, toys, bore socks, time shares, neck massagers, eye glass cleaners, salsa, old surplus, G.I. Joe's, antiques, belts, moccasins, Civil War uniforms, tools, big cookies, and maybe, just maybe some over priced guns.

yeah its Del Mar one of the most expensive communities in san diego. when i went around july parking was $10 and admission was $9 and that was with a $1 off coupon. I say these gun shows are only good for parts. lots of ammo but you can get better deals online. I bought 1,000 7.62 x 39 for $109 then i was taxed $10! you can also get your HSC card, buy bullet proof vests, check out some .50 rifles, 8 shot 22.lr plinkers for about $200, buy knives, magic tricks, toys for the kids, and lots of WWII merchandise. I only saw about 4 vendors selling handguns. Ive been a san diego resident all my life and its just too expensive to buy from these shows. I'd rather be laid back order online and forget about dealing with parking, admission, and taxes. but i did get a free silencer after leaving the show. (it was a fake plastic one with an orange tip for airsoft guns, hahaha c'mon now what a waste)

I just moved from there and the gun show in Del Mar is a HUGE waste of money and time. About 10 years ago, it was in about 3 large buildings. Now it's down to maybe 2 buildings.

I remember the "good old" days in the early 90's, driving up to the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona to the gun show there and having to take all day to walk through the 8 large buildings and then, the evil black rifles were legal to buy and own.

Man..I glad I'm out of that state. If you do go..have fun. Del Mar is a nice area.

Ahhh, the Great Western Gun Show. I used to love going twice a year to them shows. I wouls get all my cleaning supplies as well as reloading supplies. Western Nevada and Miwall kept me in cast bullets and primers. The last show there is the last gun show I have gone to....now that's sad.

Got back from a CA gunshow this Sat. It's the OC fairgrounds one also put on by the same people that do Del Mar and the parking has always been free there and is next door to a big swap meet if thats your thing or to drop off your spouse at.

Not great but there is deals if you look or if you are lucky. I got 2 20 round boxes of RWS 6.5x54MS for $20 OTD. This ammo, when available can easily sell for $30 a box. I saw a S&W mod 19 2 1/2" blue for $275, a very good price especially for CA and it only lasted about 2 hours in the case, about 95% condition with Pachmayrs.

Got Remington 50 round boxes of 38S&W for $10(not 38spl) It was part of some sort of overrun of ammo for Israel and appeared to be from 1979 or so but it was in the factory green and yellow boxes and beats paying $20 a box for this ammo as is usually the case when it can be found.

Got a Winchester rifle benchrest bag for $5(made in China!) sand not included. My dad did the jerky thing(salmon)

I was at the Costa Mesa show too. Lots of pistols 4 sale, vintage rifles too.
High prices though, you can get a MN 91/30 for #79- at Big5, but I saw the same at the show for $179-.
Go to the SOG table, absolutly beautiful Garands and M1 carbines(high prices):banghead:
some nice M1A's, Enfields, lots of parts....
Glock had a table too...

After having attended both shows, I have to say I prefer the OC one, even though I live in San Diego. I usually just get some ammo that is difficult to find elsewhere and maybe some accy's.
