I posted this on VernalNews.com - a local news website that I started with some help:

http://www.vernalnews.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=37&mode=&order=0&thold=0

Here is the meat of the issue:
http://www.vernalcity.org/mcode/title09/08.shtml#050

Section 9.08.050 Sale of firearms to be recorded--Purchaser to register weapon.

Even if it's unconstitutional to do so by the Federal Government, Vernal City requires you to REGISTER YOUR GUNS.
So if you have purchased a gun in Vernal, looks like your on the "To Do" list.
I'm going to have to look into this... it doesn't look good. Especially this part:

All records or register of sales shall be open at all times to the inspection of the Chief of Police or his representative, and it shall be the duty of any person making such sale, loan or delivery of such article or thing to deliver to the Chief of Police or his representative a copy of the register required to be kept, showing the transaction with regard to such articles. Any purchaser of a pistol, revolver, gun or similar weapon must register the same with the Police Department. (The registration by the purchaser will be fulfilled if the weapon is sold or given away by a firm or business and the registration slip is filled out completely.)

You have to register your purchase with the city so the Police can cross check records to know just who to go pay a visit to.

Nice.

Still.
I'll use FFLs out in SLC. Pvt Pyle can do a transfer for me. I am not comfortable with this statute. Especially since Vernal City has a nasty habit of doing whatever the heck they want.
They just took a lot of property in the name of "eminent domain" to expand the airport. They don't care.

George, Two years ago, the little woman and myself took a trip thru Utah on our way to Vegas. We decided to go thru the Flaming Gorge and Ashley Nat. Forest from Green River Wy. We ended up in Vernal and really liked the town as well as the landscape leading into it.

Stopped and had lunch at a diner that was long and narrow (could have been a failed fast food restaurant) We asked for an ash tray and found out you couldn't smoke in most like facilities in the whole state. Stopped in several gunstores around the state and liked what we saw there though, but even got the feeling in most gun stores that they were for some form of gun control.

As for Utah, it appeared to me that your state has a different type of selective democracy. Here in Cheeseville we have the liberal haven of MadTown (Madison) but don't have near the anti smoking Nazi's of Utah, NY., And Kali. Admittedly our state is a PC type atmosphere, but was surprised to see Utah like that.

Ya ever bought a beer in Utah? You can only get one from the state run liquor outlets. Private enterprise need not apply.

Normally I would leave such remarks to those who are affected by them. Normally....

jimpeel that is the most disingenuous remark I've read lately. Utah is not the only state that controls the sale of HARD LIQUER through state run liquer stores. And like many of those states, beer is sold over the counter at most any store that cares to sell it.

Art wuz here. :)

Betch' didn't know semi-autos are banned in Cincinnati:

From the Cincinnati Muni. Code:

(b) No person shall sell, deliver, rent, lease, offer or display for sale, or transfer ownership of, acquire or possess any detachable magazine with the following capacities:

(1) More than ten rifle or carbine rounds;

(2) More than five shotgun rounds;

(3) More than 15 handgun rounds.

This section does not apply to any detachable magazine purchased or acquired for use with semiautomatic firearms registered pursuant to division (e)(3) of this section.

(c) No person shall sell, deliver, rent, lease, offer or display for sale, or transfer ownership of, acquire or possess any extension tube, drum, cylinder, or magazine capable of increasing the capacity of a fixed or detachable magazine.

(d) This section does not apply to law enforcement officers, agents, or employees of this or any other state or the United States, members of the Armed Forces of the United States or the organized militia of this or any other state, if the acquisition or possession of a semiautomatic firearm is authorized and within the scope of his official duties.

(e) Any person who is legally in possession of a semiautomatic firearm that was legally purchased or acquired before April 1, 1989, shall within 30 days from the effective date hereof:

(1) Remove said semiautomatic firearm from within the city limits of Cincinnati; or

(2) Modify said semiautomatic firearm to either render it permanently inoperable or to permanently make it a device no longer defined as a semiautomatic firearm; or

(3) Register the firearm with the chief of police pursuant to such procedures as the city manager may establish.

The registration shall contain a description of the firearm including all identification marks, the full name, address, date of birth and such other information as the city manager may deem appropriate. The information will be provided on forms prescribed by the city manager.

Any change of address of the owner must be registered with the chief of police within 14 days of the change.

The city manager may establish a fee for registration not to exceed the actual processing costs of the city.

(f) No semiautomatic firearm possessed pursuant to division (e)(3) above may be sold or transferred after the effective date of this section to anyone within the city of Cincinnati.

(g) Any person who obtains title to a semiautomatic firearm by bequest or intestate succession must within 90 days comply with the requirements of division (e) of this section.

(h) The term "semiautomatic" means any firearm designed or specially adapted to fire a single cartridge and automatically chamber a succeeding cartridge and ready to fire, with a single function of the trigger.

Actually, I did know that Cincy bans them, thanks to the books the BATF sends me.

I mentioned this to an uncle there, but he just blows it off.

I'd definitely be living in N. Ky. or IN and commuting, were I to move back there. Only good thing about OH is no property tax on cars, so I have mine registered there, despite the fact I haven't lived there in 25 years. $25/year is great, compared to $400-$700 elsewhere I've lived.
