It's a silly idea that has no real practical application, but I can't help but be drawn to these kind of things (I'm in love with the double-barrel bolt action design). I've always wondered if it was possible to do this to a pump-action or semi-auto shotgun. Let's say one that comes in left handed and right handed versions, like the Benelli SBE. Has anyone else thought of mating two of these together in some fashion to create a double barrel? Would it be possible to do with a pump-action gun that ejected shells from the bottom?

And if you really need a practical application for this firearm, just think Zombies and reply as needed.

They've been made to work as props and one-offs. You can find short-barreled shotguns that are double barreled and pump action (usually a lefty 870 and righty 870) for sale on the subguns classified ads once in a while - there seems to be one guy making them. :)

They make lefty versions of an 870? Shows how much I know about shotguns.

I plan to expand my hobby to include project guns once I get a steady job and income, so this would definantly be a project that I'd be interested in. I wouldn't want it to be an SBR, I would want a lot of weight on it.

There's an old cartoon with a double barreled pump shotgun [Elmer Fudd/ Bugs Bunny ?] .I thought it was great. Then more interestingly I saw a recent double pump that was actually made !!!

I couldn't find it in my unique gun file, but I'm sure I have the maker's name somewhere....

I sawa double pump on the box cover of a movie, ages ago. Could've been a doctored pic, I suppose, but it looked pretty good to be fake.

Ok, three barrels may be pushing it. Two seems very plausible. If it can be done with a pump-action gun, couldn't a semi-automatic be rigged in the same way?

Oh crap, I just thought of something. If one trigger was used to fire both barrels, is it considered a DD by the NFA?

Rolling Thunder...

Two 1100s, one each LH/RH, bolted together using a common stock. Short mag extensions. Add one experienced shooter, plenty of 00 and Shazam!!

IIRC, this was a fun project done by Gunsite Staff.

That would be Moe Sizlack, the bartender on the Simpsons. :D

yep, it was Elmer Fudd with his double barrel pump gun.

Any pictures of the Rolling Thunder? Or maybe the 870 version?

I saw a magazine article some years ago about one called an "Irimi." I'm pretty sure I've got the name right; it's some kinda African demon or god of death or sumthin', IIRC.
I tried Googling for that, but just got references to its meaning in Japanese. Lots of martial arts sites, but nothing regarding combat shooting.

That Neostead looks like a serious piece of gear, but the one I saw was a little more "conventional" design. Barrels were probably 18" or more, and it had a front pistolgrip. I'm thinking now that it was a semi-auto.

I remember reading about a big city Police Dept in the states which joined two 870s together and had a common pump grip and single stock. They had a really huge guy in the SWAT team and when he walked into the alley all suited up and racked the alley sweeper, crooks lost interest reallllllllll quick like! It looded pretty awesome, but was just two 870s, bolted side by side.

Oh man, I remember reading about those repeating bouble barrel big game bolt guns years ago.

6 total rounds of .700. Monster.

There was also one other double rifle repeater bolt gun design that I recall. The two rounds were pre-loaded into removable breechblock and when the rounds were fired, the entire block was ejected and the next double round block cycled. Can't remember the designer.

If I were to undertake the task of doing this to two 870s, then I'd want the barrels to be 24".

I've been looking, but havn't found any pictures of such a conversion done to a pair of 870s. I'll keep looking and seeing what would be involved in this kind of project, though. Any other imput would be greatly appreciated.

As previously mentioned, Fuchs makes a double barrel bolt action....truely a work of art. Seem to recall they start at around $70,000 and can run well into 6 figures. Think they also offer a double barrel bolt action shotgun.
