Just picked up a CZ P-06, have a question.

Hi guys, went to a gun shop to look for used 16g shotguns and found a P-06 instead. Funny how that works...

I have a P-01 and love it to death. I almost bought a P-06 a few years ago, but couldn't swing the funds at the time. I saw this one and had to have it. Its minty fresh and I know I got an amazing deal. My question is for those of you that own one. I disassembled it to make sure everything is cool (it is) but the barrel is odd.

Toward the locking lugs on the top, the material is machined away with a taper getting larger toward the back. Can someone confirm that this is correct? My P-01 doesn't have this "feature". The only thing I can think of is that the material has been purposefully been machined for clearance with the barrel bushing during recoil.

The barrel is carburized -- a sort of heat treatment -- and that darker coloring tends to get all messed up and abraded as the gun is fired. (Some folks find it ugly and polish it all off.) You can probably remove all of the darker color pretty easily, and it won't really affect the heat treatment (of which the darker color is a by-product.)

If the gun shoots properly, I wouldn't worry about it. (It may have been that some "junk" of some sort got in there for a few rounds and caused the abrasions.) I suspect its purely cosmetic.

My question isn't about the finish. If you look at the picture, you'll see the material on top of the barrel is machined away, with the taper getting bigger toward the locking lugs.

Sorry. I misunderstood -- as when you mentioned the barrel bushing (which is PRESSED IN AND PERMANENT on a CZ) , I thought you were talking about the wear on the top and side near the front... which went a good way back toward the locking lugs. I don't think that segment of the barrel (where the machining you mention can be seen) even gets close to the bushing with the slide fully back.

I've not seen a P-06 barrel, so have no way to knowing whether what you see there is typical or atypical. Call CZ-USA. I haven't heard of or read about many P-06s, yet. You might try the CZ Forum, if you haven't already. Any CZ enthusiast should be a member. http://www.czforumsite.info/

You'll probably find some P-06 owners THERE and they can tell you if what you've got is unusual or typical. (As the gun cycles, the barrel drops down and away from the slide, and doesn't come close to anything until the slide closes -- so I don't know why extra material would have been removed UNLESS that's just typical...)

I will certainly check out the CZ forum. I have a feeling I'll find out something new and exciting, and start an all new obsession. These CZs just keep multiplying on me. Up to 4 now, and a 97B has been on my list.

That is how it is supposed to be.

It almost looks like the end of the barrel was turned and wasn't concentric with the lathe. I have one that doesn't have the black k coating and that is how it appears. If you want, I can take a picture of it, but I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had several CZ's as has Walt, and have never seen such machine marks. Call CZ-USA asap.

I posted the same question on the CZ forum, and another member said his barrel had the same machining on it. I'll keep an eye on the forums, but I'm not concerned about it right now.

My P-06 also has that markings. The P-01 may not because it has a smaller diameter barrel and may not need the clearance.

I was cleaning a new CZ 75B .40 yesterday and it had this same marking on the barrel. It's normal.
