Yes they are fear mongers.
No they don't always do all that I want.
Yes they can be a PITA in their donation drives.

All that being said they are still the 800LB Gorilla that gets the average gun abolitionist's panties in a twist and hell that's worth my money even if they didn't do the amount of good they do for our cause.

Just a gentle reminder that if you are a gunny, join the NRA or GOA or The Second Amendment Sisters or............etc. Anybody fighting for our cause deserves a few boxes of ammo worth of support from us.

+1

Join the NRA and the GOA and whatever else you can find. Don't limit yourself to one avenue of attack. ;)

NRA ez-pay life member here. :D

I figure it will take me about 7 years to get it paid off at $25 every 3 months, but after that no more.

The NRA (even if I think it should act alot more agressively, i.e. Not sportsmen's rights, gun owners rights. Not right to hunt, or right to own nice dove gun, but right to defend yourself, and own guns capable of doing so! and put more money to legislative action) is still the best gun rights group in the country :)

NRA support

I would hope all of you that use THR or any of the other gun related forums would become members of the NRA. I don't always agree on how they spend our money, but what would the alternative be if they weren't fighting for all of our second amendment rights. Please do what you can afford. Especially
during this critical time prior to the big elections.

I finally joined too

Well, I had never joined the NRA before but decided this was the year I should start.

I signed up for 3 years using the reply form from a letter I received a few weeks ago.

To my surprise though, they haven't charged my card yet. Somehow I expected they'd charge me instantly! Anyway, now I'm spending some time reading everything I can get to on their web site.

Is there additional stuff available for members after I get an ID?

Cheers,
ChckenHawk

If you can buy ammo and guns, the price of NRA membership is not out of reach and should be paid for before buying ammo or guns or accessories!

I went for the two year package this time. That life membership would be cool but the price is a bit more than I can justify.

Do ez-pay members get a vote at some point before it's paid off? I thought you got to vote after paying off a 5 year membership, but I can't find the current bylaws anywhere. I'm pretty sure I've put in well more than a five year membership for both my wife and I and wouldn't mind getting to vote already.

Cherish your NRA.

Over here in the UK we have no-one to stick up for our gun rights. Our NRA is basically a retired officers club, they think no-one needs anything other than single shot target rifles, and that's the way it's heading.

We lost semi-autos in 1988 and handguns in 1997, and the UK NRA did nothing.

Trust me, do all you can to support them, they may not be perfect but at least they do something!

Im wanting to join the NRA using the EZ Pay life membership but Im trying to figure out the magzine part. Do I get one subscription with membership? I would have already doen so but I wouldnt want to miss out on a mag! Thanks!

I'm on EPL, but I have my bank set to send $25 every month rather than every 3 months.

The NRA is a powerful voice to protect RKBA.

They also lead the way in introducing new shooters to the sport. I joined the NRA and became an NRA-certified instructor so that I could introduce as many Boy Scouts, young women, and adults to the shooting sports as I possibly could. It has been a lot of fun. :D

There are fewer people in this country who think that guns are evil because of the NRA's education efforts. This should translate into more votes that support our cause when RKBA issues are decided in the future. This is every bit as essential as NRA's lobbying efforts, IMO.

Joined when I was 18 and became a life member at 25.

If you believe in the 2nd amendment and don't belong to the NRA you should be ashamed.

I became a Life Member of the NRA back in the 80's, and an
Endowment member a few years later.
The NRA has its flaws, but like CSLINGER said, it IS the
800 pound gorilla when it comes to fighting for our rights
to keep and bear arms.
The rise in popularity of, and the passage of laws to allow
concealed carry of handguns by responsible private citizens
has been a priority of the NRA for many years, and I give the
NRA credit for helping to get a lot of that legislation passed.
For skeptics, I urge you to get on the "net", find gun enthusiast
sites in foreign countries. Try England, or Canada, or Australia.
Those are supposedly "democratic" countries. Ask the folks you
meet on those sites how having our "NRA" might have stopped
the decimation of their right to keep and bear arms.

I am torn over this...

I am torn over this issue myself. I am an ex-NRA member who quit because I felt the group was becoming to polarized and inefective. I have heard from many that this has changed some in recent years. I am considering rejoining but want my money to go where it will do the most good and not go into the wrong pockets or go into the right pockets in the wrong manner. I have also considered joining the GOA. Any avice from anyone?:)
