They removed the rear sight, and sent it back to me without one. Granted the warranty work was done by Remington, but to send the rifle back with a scope base (that I didn't put on there) and without the rear sight (which I did send it with) is just crazy.

So they did chamfered the crown, and sent back an awesome group of less than an inch, but they left my rear sight ramp off the gun.

I guess I will have to call them and have them send me a new sight ramp.

Has anyone had this kind of issues with Marlin before? I have always been a Marlin man. I own many of them, but this rifle has been problematic, and it was bought back before Remington got a hold of the company, but to send my rifle back without sights and a scope base? Why would they do that?

Maybe the smithy is saying use a scope next time. That is why he put a base on and left the sight ramp off.

Years ago. I took a rifle in to have the headspace checked and a new front ramp drilled and tapped on.
That is all the work I wanted done.
They test fired it after checking the headspace for no charge, and when I got it back in six weeks, they hadn't installed the ramp, nor even drilled the barrel.
But they had sent it out to be reblued, which I had stripped the gun to have it Duracoated, and the bolt was missing.
They swore I never brought the bolt in, but the invoice said the Headspace was fine and they gave me the test fired empty shell.

My Remington/marlin experience is 3 years out of date, but at that time nothing would have surprised me. Nothing. After 3 new supposedly hand picked guns shipped to me and rejected 1 after another with 3 serious different flaws, trying to get it right they finally refunded my money.

To their credit they did keep trying to make it right. Not customer services fault in 1 state that production in another was comically bad.

To which you reply ... "'splain to me Lucy how you check the headspace with out the bolt?"

HexHead,
That is the first thing I did. :)

I just spoke with them, and they are sending me a new assembly. The CS dept was in NC, and the repair was in NY. There is a disconnect there, and communication is via email with the two facilities.
No, worries. I just thought it really odd. I still love my Marlin firearms. My Model 60 is the most accurate rifle I own, and my 336's are pretty good, also.

The service squared off the crown, and sent me a target with 150 grain (unknown manufacturer) of less than an inch for 3 shots @ 100 yards. Which I could only get 2 1/2 to 3 inch groups before that with any ammo on this particular 30-30.

If the rear sight was not factory It would make some sense, but they should have replaced it with a factory sight.

I have no personal experience, but have heard that Ruger does this. Send them a gun with custom parts on it and they remove them and put it back to factory original and send the aftermarket parts back with the gun.

I bet they mounted a scope for the grouping then forgot to switch it back or like you said disconnect
