Hello. I was just at the gun shop, a new one I was checking out, and I saw a milled norinco mak90 sitting on display for $699 brand new. It had the thumbhole stock and everything.

Buut, I thought that they stopped importing them back in the 90s? So how the hell did I see a new one in 2011?

So my brother insisted that he heard good things about polish AKs if you can find them, and there was indeed a Polish model 1960 sitting in the display rack, also for $699.

The Polish was by FAR the tightest, smoothest one there with NO magazine wobble at all.

To what I understand, the Polish model 1960 is made out of surplus used parts and American parts to make it Import-legal.

Whereas the MAK 90 is primarily Chinese parts with a chrome lined barrel and a few american parts to make it legal.

Oh, and Just to be clear, Both of them had milled receivers.

I figure maybe it was the magazine in the mak90, since there's so many out there, maybe some just fit tighter and would be as solid as the Polish one.

But isn't the MAK90 supposed to be superior? Isn't it rare and collectible? What the hell was going on with seeing a brand new one in 2011?

Yes, it's better in my opinion.
100% pure Chi-com -vs- used parts kit,US parts(barrel,receiver,FCG)
NO more Chi-com entering the country, lots of kits.

I see lots of sat-in-a-safe Chinese popping up every now and then, here and there. I'm amazed how many got bought on a whim and then tucked away, and it makes me happy.

Until I see the couple-grand pricetag most dealers put on anything that's a military-configuration model.

$700 for even a used milled receiver Mak90 is a fantastic price, I would be all over that! Especially if they are claiming that it's in new condition.

I can guarantee you it's not "new" although it could be in "like new" condition. There have been no new Chinese AK's imported into the US ever since the US imposed sanctions on China and banned their importation.

Chinese AK's are some of the best AK's out there and one of the few quality products to come out of China.

The Polish AK's are nice but a Chinese AK is nicer, especially one with a milled receiver. Regardless of whether it's milled or not the fact remains that the Polish AK's are still assembled by Century, I would rather own an AK made in China.
