It's my first 9mm and I think we're going to get along well. I put 150 rounds of over-priced range ammo through it and I'm impressed at how easy it shoots. Next week I'll start feeding it defense ammo to see what it likes. I have a case and a half of more reasonably priced stuff on order to have fun with.

Nice. I haven't been able to find one anywhere to get my hands on it and see if I like it. I want one in .40 to replace my SA XD40 for carry duty. No stores around here seem to have them in stock and when they do they are gone right away. Must be a good sign I guess.

Seems like you had a good experience out of the box. Anything you didn't like about it?

No complaints so far. As long as I did my job, it did its part. I've had a light polymer .40 before and it was just too snappy for me. Always had to regrip between shots. The 9mm Shield did not give me that problem.

Of course, it won't be displacing the 1911 on my hip, but it might bump the 442 out of my pocket.

The Shield 9mm is truly an exceptional pistol. My shooting partner has one and I shoot it often. He previously owned the 9mm Walther PPS that had a few issues. I think it's great that S&W brought out such a well designed and thought out pistol. American quality through and through. ;)

I finally got to see one, but didn't have any money. :banghead: At $599, the dealer's asking price, they were $150 too high anyway. Another dealer had one for $500 out the door; considering there is 9.5% sales tax and a $10 TBI check fee, this wasn't bad. I like the look, feel and short-stroke trigger very much, and it is a deriviative of a reliable design. I had hoped to fill this role - a thinner and shorter holster gun - with the Bersa BP9, but this didn't work out.

Ouch, they're awfully proud of the Shields in your area. I purchased 2 (9 & 40) for $389.00 each plus tax.

What is a TBI fee?

9mm over 40 in these small guns. Shot placement, faster follow up shots, capacity over caliber.

I went through several concealed carry guns but stopped switching after I got the Shield.

Not saying its perfect/best for everyone but for me it is very good.

Today my son and I put 150 rounds of Federal Hi-Shok 147 grain through the Shield. I had one stovepipe while doing hammers with a terrible grip. That one was clearly operator error. Then my son had an odd-looking FTE. It was as though the extractor slipped off the rim after it had mostly extracted the round. I looked at the brass, but couldn't see anything wrong with it. My son says nothing felt wrong about that shot, so I'm not sure what to think.

The Shield fed every round perfectly, so I'm inclined to trust the ammo from that perspective, but the FTE concerns me, since that becomes a type 3 malfunction.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation does our background checks, not NICS. It is still over the phone and instant, but there is a mandatory $10 fee.

As for the prices I cited in that post, those were at a gun show and from dealers out of the area. I can wait. But I do like the gun. :)
