I went back to the range yesterday with the Shield and also took my CZ P07. I only took 50 rounds because it was cold and had snowed about an inch the day before. The ammo was Federal 115 gr. FMJ.
I started out with 15 rounds through the CZ. I wasn't happy with my performance the last time that I took the P07 out. So that's why I brought it along yesterday. My first three shots with the CZ were very good, but after that it was all down hill. There is nothing wrong with the gun, it is me. Anyway, after 15 rounds (I only load 5 rounds at a time to make the whole experience last longer), I was POed with my performance. So I moved on to the Shield Plus. I was much better. My target would not impress anyone but I was way better with the little Shield than the CZ. I'm impressed with the Shield for it's size. And maybe the ported barrel does help.
Out of the 35 rounds through the Shield I had one failure of the slide to lock back after the last round. I've talked to my LGS where I bought it and we're going to watch the issue.
I also tested out something that I had been wondering about with the ported barrel since I had never had one before. I started pulling the gun in closer to me to see what I would experience with some gasses exiting upward from the two ports. I only took two or three test shots with my normal hold of two hands, thumbs forward but moving the gun closer to me. The last shot was with my elbows touching my rib cage. At that retention position I could feel a puff of air (or gasses in this case) on my face. I don't think I would pull the gun in any closer than that. But what I experienced that that distance wasn't bad. And now I know.
Overall I'm very impressed with the accuracy that I get from this small gun. It shoots like a larger pistol. I seem to be noticing a pattern whereby I'm more accurate with my striker fired pistols than I am with my hammer fired. I wasn't expecting that.
