I got a screaming deal off the used rack at Cabela's on Sunday.

I've been looking for a shotgun for limited use for hunting and clay birds on my property.

I was checking out the pump actions and found a Mossberg 500 which looks brand new. 12ga? Check. Chambered for 3" shells? Check. Screw in choke? Check. Worked the action a few times, feels good. Nice and smooth. Elevator and bolt are very shiny with no wear.

Then I check the price tag...$175!

Needless to say after a short NICS check I left with my first pump action.
I'm very excited to go play with it.

Plans are to buy an 18.5" barrel for home defense and load it up with some 00. When it's time to head down to the cabin, the barrel is super easy to swap.

I think I'm in love. But the only thing I'm not crazy about is the porting on the barrel. It's got a few danglers inside the bore. Oh well.

Oh, I tried looking this gun up in my gun values book and there are 9 bajillion models of 500. Give or take a bajillion.
Can someone tell me specifically which model I have?

It's got the ported 28" barrel. Checkered walnut stock and fore end. Gold trigger, brass middle bead and white front bead. Did this come from the factory this way, or did the original owner. Add all this stuff?

i can't help you as to any specifics about the model, but also wanted to congratulate you on your purchase, i just got my first mossberg a 20ga 500 and i can't wait to take it out and put it through it's paces.

Its the Field model. I have the same one got it from walmart 4 or 5 years ago. 28" ported barrel with front bead and smaller brass bead and gold trigger are all standard. Great gun haven't shot a ton through it but always worked good never given me any problems.

I got that same model in 20 ga last month for $217 at wally world, same price for 12 ga. Its a great gun, this is my 3rd mossy. My only thing I don't like on my mossy is the plastic safety. So I put a metal safety on for $30 parts & labor. I also got a 18.5" barrel from mossberg for $80 & added a tritium night site bead for $40 parts & labor on the short barrel.

Thanks for the help guys. Hopefully I can get it out soon, and report back how it does.
