Well I don't want to turn this into a history thread, but the Nazi's left Switzerland alone for non-military reasons.

HOGWASH. If Switzerland had no military force, Germany could have taken it--AND ITS BANKS--just as it took Austria and Czechoslovakia. The revisionist history, PUSHED BY ANTIGUN LEFTWINGERS, holds that Germany didn't fear the Swiss rifles, but just wanted a safe place to invest. What this theory overlooks is the fact that Germany could have had just as safe a place to keep its money if an axis flag flew over Zurich.

Exactly right. In fact Hitler very much wanted to invade Switzerland, as it would have made it easier for him to attack the rest of Europe through it, but when he asked his generals for a feasibility analysis, they told him that although they could conquer Switzerland, it would mean the loss of at least 100,000 German soldiers. He decided going around Switzerland was a better idea. This fact is recorded in a book titled Target Switzerland, by Stephen P. Halbrook

I'm right on the verge of ordering one of the clamp-on scope mounts from Midway I have been hearing about. I REALLY want to see what the K-31 will do on Fred, but I'm heavy into not altering (perminantly at least) my mil-surps.
The St. Marie clamp on mount sold by Brownells and others will not mar your receiver and it is very stable.

when i visited switzerland, i got the opportunity to tour an artillery bunker, which i never would have seen otherwise. they have tunnels throughout the mountains, full of concealed artillery and firing positions, very resistant to bombing. i was very impressed. really made me understand why it would have taken so many german lives to take switzerland.
