For all the Mil-Surp gurus...

What is a reasonable price for the K-31 rifles? I have seen some in my local Dunhams sporting goods for about $139, IIRC.

p.s. I am NOT a C&R licensed guy, so I'm stuck at buying retail.

$139 retail isn't a bad price. For that you are getting the shipping charges built into the price & you get a limited "handpick" (depending on how many the store has in stock & how many the clerk feels like hauling out for you). Really, considering how well built the rifle is we should all be paying lots more for it (shhh don't tell anyone :D ).

That said, I would rather save a bit & roll the dice with what AIM or SOG comes up with once the BBT drops it off.

If you had your C&R, SOG has em on sale for $78.

Do you have a super special rate? Cheapest the website shows is 84.95 when you buy two.

Just as a note, I just ordered from them and they were out of Swiss ammo with more on the way but they don't know when. Not sure if AIM has any in stock. I know a local place has the ammo... 7.99 for 10 rounds. They also has one K31, only $189!! :neener:

I can't wait for my rifle, it should have shipped Monday...

Do any of the C&R vendors have them in Very Good condition? The SOG rifles are described as "Good" and apparently the stocks are very beat up and the finish often well worn.

VG, as you pointed out, the wood on many K31s is in fairly neglected shape, but the metal on the majority of K31s would be considered NRA excellent. The wood may be crappy, but it's easy to clean up.

I bought my K31 for $89 from Sog (put my C&R to use) and received a rifle with metal and finish that looked as if it just rolled off the factory floor... on a beat-all-to-snot stock.
However, with just a little elbow grease and walnut stain, I made the wood match the metal. Though I don't care to own identical firearms, I'm tempted to buy another K31 and do the same.

If you don't have a C&R 03FFL, $139 found locally is a good deal (includes shipping, somewhat of a selection, ability to handle before purchase, etc.).

Remember, your local gunshop owner needs to eat, too.

Without a C&R, I don't think that's a bad price. As pointed out above, the FFL has to make a profit even on the gun itself, and he IS providing you a service if you don't have the FFL.

However, keep in mind that your CRFFL only costs $30, so if you could save $30 with it on this one rifle, the license has paid for itself. From then on, it saves you money on each Cruffler gun you buy, and you can also buy from out of state (C&R only) without paying 01 FFLs "transfer fees."

In addition, if your state, like IL, has a waiting period, C&R guns will be exempt for you if you have your CRFFL. Aside from pricing, it's pretty cool to come home and find your new rifle on the back porch. And if you live in a place like Illinois, it's REALLY cool to wrap up a gun and take it home the day you decide to buy it.

AIM said they just got a small shipment of them in with very nice stocks. With a dealer to transfer it it probably wouldn't run you more than $160 with shipping & fees. K31's with issue stocks in good condidtion are fairly rare.

An updated $0.02 fwiw :D .

snowdog, don't do it (don't buy a second one). Because it's like eating pringles - if it's ok to have two K31s, what's to stop you from having 2,3, 4, or 5 of ALL of them? Pandora's box, buddy. But I love the K31s. I have 2 at present, and want a 1911 model.

I can buy all of them? Hey, that's swell! I'd better get started now then. :p

I just spoke to the nice lady at BATF who's handling my C&R application. She said that I'm #2 in her pile for Monday's work, and that without any problems her work will be done that day. She even gave me a preliminary license #...

Which means that a K-31 order is only about a week or so away!!!!:D

I emailed SOG and they said the $78 price is valid for this month. The website monthly special hasn't been updated. It still shows the July special.

I ordered one of the K-31s from AIM's new shipment. I was about to go to bed when I saw a post on the Surplus Rifles Forum at 1am last night. I ended up ordering one that very second. Too good a deal to pass up.

When did you mail in your app?
I sent mine away 3 weeks ago.
Thanks

Can you post a copy of that e-mail or something? I double checked my order, and I was charged the normal 89.95 for the rifle. I'll call them on Monday and see what they say, since I definately ordered it this month...

I mailed mine off on July 8th. They cashed my check on July 14th. Got the license in the mail today, August 13. Seems like you got a week or so to go if my process is any indication.

I wrote SOG an email asking:

I heard that you have a monthly special on the K-31 for $78, but when
I looked on the website (http://www.southernohiogun.com/month.html) it
only listed the July special of for the Ruger GP100.

Is there a special on the K-31?

Johnathan [SIC], The $78.00 is correct. I apologize for for the website. Our
computer guru resigned and we haven't been able to find anyone to fill his
shoes.

Woo hoo, it came today, a lot better in the stock than I expected, and they shipping manifest shows they charged the sell price, so all is good!

Now to order from AIM... :D
