K Frame Butt Question

How much difference in size is there between the round butt and suqare butt K frames? I just got a set of pachmyr grips used and discovered they are for the round butt k frame. It looks like I could make them fit by removing a little material at the bottom.

It's not hard to fit the square-butt kind to a round-butt frame, but harder the other way around. The shape of the R.B. is slightly different at both the front and rear/lower corner. But if you are careful it can be done. Cut a cardboard template of your square-butt frame first so that you can see what you're doing.

you could also go to brownell's and get the jig to convert it (you bolt it on like a pair of grips, trace the round butt outline, then take it off, grind most of it down, put it back on, and file finish the rest), but at that price, it is probably easier to sell your grips and get the right one. Or do what I would do, get the right grips for your square, and buy a round butt k frame to match your spare grip!
