um, are you sure it is legal to carry a fixed blade knife in your location?

It is, and is it legal to carry concealed as long as the blade of the knife is less than three inches long.

I know something like pepper spray would be better for my application, I was somewhat curious about the Kabar knife through because of its shape and design.

This knife was discussed recently in the practical and tactical section of bladeforums. It received very good reviews. I would not carry one only because of the laws in my state. The only negative comments about the knife is the sheath. You may want to have someone make you a new kydex sheath that allows you to carry it in the waist band instead of outside on the belt.

Check out On-Scene Tactical for a multi-position kydex sheathe for the T.D.I.

Eric does great work with kydex knife sheaths.

I think the guys that had a problem with the sheath just lacked imagination. You can wear the sheath under your belt and it is as invisable as IWB.

I don't know yet, but I ordered 2 a week or so back. I got the idea from a cousin thats a LEO, he liked his.

Very good knife

I reviewed the TDI for Modernsurvival.net a few months ago (unfortunately, the article isn't available unless you subscribe). In short, I like the TDI a lot. I bought one and carry it regularly. It's a great design and is well made, IMHO.

Do yourself a favor and get the trainer at the same time. It will help you to familiarize yourself with the knife while lowering the risks in your practice sessions.
