I am hoping the Kahr owners out there can help me with this one. I am looking at various options for small CCW pistols. The Kahr in .40 has my interest, but I would like more than 6 shots. Are there any reliable extended mags for them? I notice Kahr offers an 8 rounder for the 9mm, but no 7 rounder for the .40. That seems odd to me, but perhaps they just haven't gotten around to it. Will the 8 round 9mm mag work with the 40 as a 7 rounder?

No. You would have to re-form the feed lips and after you bend them, I wouldn't trust them one bit. You can't be sure you got the angle right and that it releases the cartridge at the right point. You'd also have to use a .40 follower. Aside from that I doubt you'd gain a round, you might have a little more space in the magazine, but probably not an entire round. I suspect you will get your wish for a 7 round .40 mag when Kahr comes out with a T40 model to complement their T9 series.

As far as aftermarket mags go, Promag does list a 7 round .40 mag on their website: www.promagindustries.com/kahr.asp

I don't know how well regarded Promags are for Kahrs, but their reputation is spotty elsewhere. They work fine in my Sig 229, but they are known to be only slightly better than USA brand with their Glock magazines (In case you don't know, USAs are universally renowned as crappy magazines).

My experience with Pro-mags has been about the same as USAs. I suppose as cheap as they are I could take a shot. Not much money lost. I hadn't thought about the T series in 40. Makes sense Kahr would do that.

Thanks!

I was at the range today with 4 new Promags for my Kahr 9mm.

They're 8 rounders and functioned flawlessly (shot 24 rounds ea). They have a flat follower (unlike the concave kahrs) & I didn't know what to expect, but I was very pleased.
They also are slightly longer then the factory mags, but the base plate is configured a little differently and they fell good to grip. It's almost like having a very small grip extension.

I got them at CDNN for 10.99 each.

I can't speak about the 40 cal. mags but if they're as good as the 9mm, they should work well for you.

I love my Kahrs. Regarding the K40s or even the K40 Coverts, I just buy extra mags. Capacity means compromise for little guns like these. I usually carry a Covert with two aspare mags. When I carry my K9 or K40, I still carry 2 spare mags. Forget the extra round or two with an aftermarket mag maker.

I appreciate the info. I am tossing back and forth on the caliber issue, but I suppose one round isn't enough to worry about. The Kahr looks like a neat little pistol. I have a friend who has one, and am hoping he will let me put a through rounds through it before I decide. The DAO trigger had kept me from looking at them seriously, but when I did the CCW training I did surprisingly well on the revolver section leading me to reconsider my options. The Kahr seems to have a lot going for it in terms of concealability, and from what I read reliability.

Gray........
Dont let anyone sway you from a Kahr until you shoot one. They are that nice........the best grip known on any gun IMO! Very well made, very accurate and all that............Shoot one and then worry about the 40 capacity.......usually 7 of the little motha's flying past/into someone will be plenty.......if not, practice tac. reloads.............:D

Shoot well..................
