Kahr CM9 reliable enough?

My semi off-topic thoughts on "Break In Period": Enough time for a new owner to familiarize him/herself with the Owner's Manual, its parts diagram, cleaning, assembly, disassembly and loading procedures, inspect the firearm, verify function over several range trips, identify and evaluate any problems or perceived shortcomings.

Yep, there are lemons and indeed I've seen some horrid shooters and no, not every model works for every person. Try it on, wring it out. If it fits like a pair of old Levis then keep it. If not, move on. Remember the Yugo, products that don't work aren't sold for long regardless of price.

I have 2 CM9's...never had any issue ever with either one. It has become my daily carry in the front pocket gun.
One thing though- the slide spring is stout, I bought 2 so my wife could carry one. She can't. She has small weak hands/wrists and can't work the slide!
This the first pocket sized pistol out of 6 or so that has been flawless, for me anyway. I gave up on pocket .380s and the PF9 because of issues. The CM9 is a keeper.

I freaking love my CM9...

The only issue I've had so far is with my 7rd extended mag that I bought... it is ammo sensitive. So far I've shot Magtech 115gr, Aguila 115gr, and Federal 115gr FMJ and Aguila 124gr...

I took some pics and OAL numbers of the ammo I had left over(I shot up all my Aguila 115gr)... you can see why the Federal might be more sensitive.

Also for whatever reason, the Federal ammo is the only one that the top round in the magazine will not pop up level if pushed down... It's odd.

Notice the shape of the bullet profile from one to the other?

And Federal consistently had the longest rounds overall, Magtech was the most consistent from round to round but middle in OAL, and the Aguila 124gr was shortest but least consistent from round to round.

Kahr 7 round magazines are kind of touchy. I stick with the standard six rounders, that I have confidence in.

I can run both a 7 rounder from my cw9 and a extra 8 round mag and both work great in my cm9.

flatlander - Thats the reason I like magtech ammo for practice. cost is good , allways goes bang and does not give feeding issues.

CM9 reliability

I have bought a CM40. I love it, but it does have some issues.
I screwed up and messed up the slide lock spring first time field stripping it.
I am not even sure what to do right, or wrong. Freaks me out that I can't field strip it without a very delicate part getting damaged.
The magazines I've been using have a steel tab sticking out of the plastic follower. That steel piece seems to be sticking ever farther out, and hanging up on the steel sides of the magazine, unless I very carefully load the rounds, pushing down and back with a lot of attention.
The CM40 has been very accurate for me and hasn't had a malfunction since the field-stripping incident. It kicks the empties right back, over my head with intensity.
If you have a Kahr, you may be able to play around with extra magazines from the other, instead of buying lots of the shortest ones, which a CM will use.
That saves a bit.
All being said, my PF 9's have been awfully cheap, small, reliable, with good customer service. They are also rather ugly to look at.

After so much research about small 9mm's my eyes hurt, I bought the Kahr CM9. I absolutely love this pistol. Excellent quality construction, technically advanced trigger ("long pull" serves it's purpose-SAFETY!), "tight" for a reason-longevity of use, "clone of PM9"-time proven reliability), various carry options-pocket, OWB, IWB, AIWB, easy breakdown and cleaning, shoots everything I feed it, fairly priced, and good CS. I know there are other positive reasons, these are what comes to mind instantly. Many "complain" of the recommend "break-in of 200 rounds", but who wouldn't shoot at least that many before carrying ANY firearm for SD? BTW, my CM9 had no malfunctions from day one, and now with over 500 rds.fired, it still is problem free. Take care and be safe.

As someone stated. Go over to the kartalk forums and you will get a lot of info.
My PM9 is my preferred carry gun over my 340PD and my Shield.
If you like long smooth DA trigger actions the Kahr is a great choice.

I bought a very lightly used CM9 back in July and have three hundred rounds or so through it, including an assortment of hollow-points. I had one misfeed with a hollow-point (not sure which brand - I had a box of assorted that came out of my other carry guns when I decided to change out ammunition; I used these mixed in with fmj to test reliability) and a couple with fmj. The fmj problems were in the extended magazines, owing, I think, to the springs still being very stiff.

It's been a good gun so far, though enough larger than the Taurus TCP that it replaced that I'm still figuring out the best way *for me* to carry it.

No complaints with my 2010 PM9. It's my EDC pistol. Easily has 2000 flawless rounds through it of various brands of FMJ and JHP's.

I still have the PM9 I bought back in 06 or so.
Carried it every day and shot it at least once a month for 3 1/2 years. Then I moved up to a Kahr P45.
But the PM9 is not going anywhere. It is the only 9mm I own these days.

My Kahr PM9 has been absolutely reliable. I have the all black version and installed a front tritium night sight. I wear it in a Garrett Silent Thunder holster and it's a very comfortable combinate. Oh, and the trigger is very nice. Shoots amazing accurate for the size of gun it is. I probably have about 500 rounds through it as I should a few mags every month or two. I also shot about 250 rounds through it after purchase to ensure good break in, etc.
