I don't remember the slide release being unusually stiff, but can tell you the recoil spring seemed to be.

The slide lock lever is tensioned by the magazine spring and Justin Moons patented design for single stack pistols uses very strong mag springs to ensure chamber presentation in his design that also utilizes an off set feed ramp. You will also notice a steel insert in the follower to facilitate the aforementioned.
