Just bought a new Kahr CW9 and was wondering how many rounds it takes to really loosen up. This gun was Tight out of the box for initial break down, understandable, but after 50 + rounds still tight? Totally been a different breakin compared to my MP pro 9. The cw9 manual said 100round break in, just wondering being half way there if this is normall to still be dealing with a stiff action that isn't performing flawless.

How many stoppages are we talking about? One or two in your first 50 rounds are forgivable, but consistent stoppages (say one per magazine or more) are worrisome even at this early stage.

I too would rather see a gun run perfectly from round one, but some do not. Kahr actually specifies a break-in period, as you noted. (A Kahr E9 I bought in 1999 did run perfectly until it got dirty.) If it doesn't straighten up and fly right after that, you have a problem. Be sure you are lubricating it adequately.

As far as stoppage, i would say about 4 so far. The shell not completely ejecting 6 to 8 times. I make sure to keep it oiled and am very anal on cleaning so I don't believe its a problem due to being dirty. We'll see how things go this afternoon. I'll post more on it after the range today or tomorrow. Thanks for the feed back!

What kind of oil? Thicker oil may help. Don't forget to get the noutside of the barrel wet, alot of Kahr owners miss that.

50 ain't enough. It takes a while for the machining marks on the outside of the barrel to wear down and smooth out. See where its getting shiney. It' needs more of that. No harm in polishing the ramp 100 rounds from now as well. Alot of new Kahrs are coming with polished ramps now.

And Kahrs hate wimpy ammo. What ammo are you running? For some peace of mind try a box of +p or +p+ carry ammo. maybe also with a lower weight bullet for more snap.

I love my p380, best pocket gun ever. After 150 rounds it'll short stroke on wimpy WWB 90gn every once in a while. But is flawless with stronger Corbon Powerball in 70gn.

I believe Kahr says 200 before you do anything. I like my P380 also and want to get it a P9 big brother!

Sprink268 200 rounds before you do what? It clearly says in the manual to break down before first use, and as with all my guns they go through a 50 round breakin, which involves alot of tear down clean and oil. I can't make it to the range today, but tomorrow will be a day of alot of shooting. Will report more tomorrow evening on how the Kahr is doing! Thanks for all your input!

Kahrs require a 200 rounds break in period. I just got a CW9 a little while ago. Before I took it out I cleaned and lubed it and then manually racked the slide a whole bunch of times. During the 200 round break in I didn't have any issues at all, the gun was flawless.

Kahr recommends a 200rd break-in before carrying. I've owned 2 CW9s and never had any problems with either, even during the break in. Hope everything works out.

you're cleaning it, after the initial cleaning, more than once in the first 50 rounds?

i thought it was a 200 round break-in period too

Just bought mine a month ago, after about 150 mine has loosened up considerably and the problems stopped. What a great gun though, already saving for a forty kahr.

Awsome pistol, Congrats!! I have 2 Kahrs and love them both, mine have been perfect from the get but some need a break-in and then they are flawless. Good luck with yours and I think you made a great choice.
FYI if for some reason it does'nt buff out, Kahr is known for their exellent and fast customer service, they will make it right for you!

The light/small pistols are very sensitive to grip. If you are having problems with it ejecting completely, I would really concentrate on holding it tightly.

I have 2 Kahr pistols, and they are both still stiff with a 1000 rounds each. If they don't fail in actual use you should probably not worry about it. It still amazes me when my little PM9 cycles as it should under actual operating conditions. When I'm just fiddling around with it and admiring it, I can't see how it will ever cycle without failing as tight as it is. But it does.

don't let "tightness" become a concern. a properly fitted pistol, and most Kahrs are, will actually hold up better to hard use than a loosely fitted pistol

9mmepiphany: That was exactly the point i was trying to make. If you don't let those pistols 'slam' themselves together, they don't want to really cozy up. But in actual use, it makes for a very reliable pistol. I love mine. Of course, I still love my fairly new EMP. It's great to own great pieces of form and function and to shoot them.

Kahr breakin offically completed. The CW 9 was completely flawless ;) I am going to be looking into a wrap for the grip, but other than that, the action has improved and is definetly a gun that will be used. Kahr has created a great gun for the price. Now if my extra mags would show up soon we'll be in buisness:D Thanks again for everyone's input!!

Shootinblanks, sorry I didn't make myself clear, but I'm glad everyone else stepped in to cover me! Thanks, guys!

Glad it worked out. I have about 500 flawless rounds through mine and it is still very tight. I did polish the feed ramp after about 100 rounds just because it had some machine marks that annoyed me but caused no problems. I still use the Kahr method of inserting the first shell by using the slide lock. This is one tough pistol to rack the slide but I love the way it shoots. I will definitely keep this Kahr and buy another.

Practice a little and you can rack it by hand. The biggest thing is you have to release it at the rearmost point. No cheating like on a Glock.
